2010 Starting QB

Troy Smith

I know he's kinda small but he would have started last year over Flacco had he not been hurt, and the ability is there. I was really hoping we'd draft him when he came out of OSU but he has potential. Only bad thing is that he's an RFA but it'd be worth giving up the pick for if the Ravens want to keep him.

It's pretty tough to speculate about the QB 2010 position, every time we think or know what we want and should have, our FO seems to do the opposite. I would like to see a young franchise quarterback take the reigns and learn and make strides in leaps and bounds. If that means have a couple of tough years, then so be it. How we go about successfully getting one high level QB in this great draft class is beyond me. First round QB is something we should sacrifice to get. Does anyone know how this could be made possible? What kind of trade would we be talking about to obtain a first round pick in 2010?

This draft has the potential to be very deep, QB-wise. If Fox is gone, I think it will depend a lot on who takes over as to if we get a QB early or not.

We may still make it back into the first round. There is a good chance that if Fox is fired, other players will be traded away by the new crew before draft day.

I think that is still an if, though. While it'd be nice to have back to back winning seasons, I think that the Big Cat is going to see how the rest of this season goes. If Fox pulls out a few wins despite the tough schedule, especially if the Panthers finish strong, I expect he'll be back next year.

If Fox is back, I would say we'd get a QB either in the late rounds and groom him behind a veteran (McCown maybe when healthy, or perhaps Moore/Feely if either of them shows anything this year), or get one of the aforementioned FAs. I do not think T.Jackson would be there. Pennington seems like a Foxy QB, but I think his starting career is over.

To be honest, a First Round pick would probably cost us one in future drafts, or multiple picks in this year's draft, along with a player... and I do not think we have the currency to get a top ten pick unless there is a team desperate for a RB. I do not think Steve Smith would command a top ten draft choice. To be honest, Williams is probably our only player that would. If we wanted a mid round selection we may be able to work something else out. It depends how high you want it to be.
