NFLPA GAME

Philip Haynes, OG, Wake Forest (6035, 322 lbs) - 4 year starter, long armed, powerful. At local pro day too.

SHRINE GAME

Terry Godwin, WR, Georgia (5110, 168 lbs) - Fast and has been exceptional route runner at the Shrine practices.  Seen him as high as the 5th but likely a 7th/UDFA type.

Josh Miles, OT Morgan St (6047, 318 lbs) - Surprise of first practice.  Consistently winning from LG position with fluid athleticism and strong anchor.

Brian Wallace, OT, Arkansas (6054, 312 lbs) - Very highly rated prospect coming out of high school that hasn't lived up to the billing.  RG/RT type that used his length and was impressive in pass protection in practice.

Blace Brown, CB, Troy (6000, 183 lbs) - Ball-hawking but thin-framed corner.  Instincts and fluidity are praised but concerns about if his thin body can hold up in the NFL.  Seen him rated as high as round 2 and as low as the 6th.

Lamont Gaillard, C, Georgia (6020, 305 lbs) -  Impressive in practice, agility and ability to get to the second level praised.  Zone blocking linemen.

Jordan Brailford, DE, Ok State (6030, 249 lbs) - Productive and long but knocked for his lack of rush moves.  Has played standing up and hand down.

Alex Bookser, OT, Pitt (6060, 324 lbs) - Guard prospect

Montre Hartage, CB, Northwestern (5111, 191 lbs) - Good ball skills, rated one of the top cover men in college in 2017.

Daylon Mack, DT, Texas A&M (6007, 325 lbs) - Not just a space eater, has been exceptional at the Shrine practices.

Derick Roberson, DE, Sam Houston St (6032, 250) - Highly rated prospect coming out of high school and transfered from Texas.  Highly productive speed rusher

Devine Ozigbo, RB, Nebraska (5105, 230 lbs) - Power, lateral quickness, did well in zone rushing concepts. McCaffery compliment.  Doing very well at the Shrine practices.

Ulysees Gilbert, OLB, Akron (6000, 229 lbs) - Undersized but physical and athletic

CJ Conrad, TE, Kentucky (6044, 250 lbs) - Does all the things well, but no YAC ability.  Seen as just an average athlete.

Jordan Ta'amu, QB, Ole Miss (6026 214 lbs)- Seen as a sleeper dual-threat QB.  Helping himself alot in the practices and seen as a solid backup option with upside.

Juwaan Bushell-Beatty, OT, Michigan (6052, 333 lbs) - Guard/Swing Tackle prospect.  Not always pretty but gets the job done.  Long with quick/efficient hands.  Needs work on technique and to show a little more tenacity.

Ethan Greenidge, OT, Villanova (6046, 337 lbs) - Looks like another guard prospect but working at tackle in practices.

Trey Pipkins, OT, Sioux Falls (6054, 310 lbs) - Analytics are big on him.  Feet, hands, agility, intelligence all praised.

Nick Brossette, RB, LSU (6000, 218 lbs) - Pass protection highly praised.  Power back.

Daniel Wise, DT, Kansas (6026, 290 lbs) - Dominating the event.  Shows up on tape too and used everywhere.  Going to rise up draft boards.

Kyle Phillips, DE, Tennessee (6036, 277 lbs) -  Head coach at the Shrine Game was the Panthers DL coach where he had a strong week of practices.  Said Panthers talked about how his game translates to the next level with him there.  Very athletic reportedly running in the 4.6s at his pro day and played the 3, 5, and 9 techniques at UT.  That versatility would be exactly what the Panthers are looking for. He's probably a late rounder at best but the team could be trying to put a bug in his ear early to persuade him toward Carolina as an UDFA.  Another Hurney special.

SENIOR BOWL

Erik McCoy, C, Texas A&M (6036, 310 lbs) - 3 year starter and rated as high as the #2 center.  Viewed as an excellent zone blocker.

Juan Thornhill, S, Virginia (6006, 202 lbs) - Lots of experience and certainly has shown ball-hawking skills.  Position switch from corner but showed out his athleticism at the combine.

Nasir Abberley, S, Delaware (5117, 195 lbs) - Big fan.  Checks alot of boxes as he is physical, has ball skills from spending time at CB and is a great athlete too.  Teams didn't bother challenging him last year.  Step up in competition will be questioned but he's a strong FS/center fielder candidate.

Garrett Bradbury, C, NC State (6027, 304 lbs) - Another highly rated center and a hometown kid. Zone blocking too (sensing a theme).  Range and athleticism highly touted being a former TE.  Still new to the position.  Combine meeting now too.

Nate Davis, G, Charlotte (6033, 317 lbs) - Played some tackle but mostly RG in college.  Used at LG during senior bowl.  Powerful run blocker with good movement skills making him ideal for gap/power run blocking scheme.  Footwork issues that need to be worked on.  At local pro day too.

COMBINE

Dalton Risner, OT, Kansas State (6046, 312 lbs) - Older but has been a consistently good college player for many years.  Can play any position on the line. Very likely a first rounder.

Greg Little, OT, Ole Miss (6052, 310 lbs) - Athletically very gifted, inconsistent in his technique.  Another highly rated prospect can play both on both the left and right. Likely a first rounder

Mitch Hyatt, OT, Clemson (6053, 303 lbs) - Mid round guy.  Clemson's LT for years.  Strength and technique are questioned as well as questions about if he is maxed out.  Struggles with speed so moves to the right side or inside to guard are suggested.  Durable, dependable come up as positives.

Jonah Williams, OT, Alabama (6044, 302 lbs) - Top of the class.  Arm length has raised questions about if he can stay at tackle.  Tape says absolutely.

Ben Banogu, DE/OLB TCU (6034, 250 lbs) - Highly athletic with solid production over the last two season.  Complete lack of bend is biggest knock but very strong agility scores say otherwise.  He has an array of rush moves. After his pro day teams believed he'd go between picks 40 and 60.

Will Grier, QB, WVU (6024, 217 lbs) - Local kid and a pretty strong QB prospect.  Arm strength has been questioned but combine workouts seemed to quell that fear a bit.  Could be in consideration for the Panthers if still sitting there in round 3.

Tyree Jackson, QB, Buffalo (6070, 249 lbs) - Very strong armed day 3 prospect with development potential.  Surprisingly athletic as well.

Dexter Lawrence, DT, Clemson (6044, 342 lbs) - NT prospect who can eat up blockers.

Christian Wilkins, DT, Clemson (6032, 315 lbs) - Defiantly the best on the vaunted Clemson DL and probably won't even reach Carolina's pick.  Would be awesome as a 3 technique in a 43 who can move to the 5 in a 34.

Deebo Samuel, WR, South Carolina (5112, 214 lbs) - Hampered by QB play but a very strong route runner with YAC ability. At local pro day too.

Lonnie Johnson, CB, Kentucky (6017, 213 lbs) - Big physical outside corner but his feet looked like a wreck in drills and on tape.  If you see a big corner like him selected it will give the team a chance to move Jackson around the defense.

Renell Wren, DT, Arizona St. (6047, 318 lbs) - Athletic freak and who would be a great fit as a gap penetrator at the 3 or 5 technique in Carolina's new D.

Jachai Polite, DE/OLB, Florida (6025, 258 lbs) - Stock took a tumble after the combine but tape shows a very good pass rusher with the ability to get to the QB multiple ways.

Montez Sweat, DE/OLB, Miss St. (6056, 260 lbs) - Stock sky rocketed after the combine.  Tape backs up the athletic numbers as K State's Risner was probably the only one to completely shut him down this last year.

Gardner Minshew, QB, Wash St. (6007, 225 lbs) - Accurate but arm strength is questioned.   Late rounder.

Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, S, Florida (5107, 210 lbs) - Stop me if you've heard this before, a safety who has coverage experience as he has played nickel as well.  The team seems to be looking for that type of versatility to pair with Reid.  Seen as high as round 1 but could be  steal as a round 2 prospect.

PRO DAY/VISIT

Jazz Ferguson, WR, Northwestern St (6045, 227 lbs) - Multiple meetings with Panthers and Ravens for the LSU transfer. Showed some serious speed at the combine but has been knocked for his play speed not matching. Huge catch radius to help in red zone.

Clayton Thorson, QB, Northwestern (6040, 222 lbs) - Pro Day meeting.  Experienced and strong armed but erratic.  Has mobility though and  checks a lot of boxes when it comes to measurable.  Day 3 or UDFA prospect.

Ryan Watson, DE/OLB, Air Force (6027, 256 lbs) - Interest being shown at pro day.  His 2 year military commitment is up in April so he's eligible to be picked up.  Very productive in college and has scheme versatility but hard to find info on him.  Would be UDFA for sure.

Miles Sanders, RB, PSU (5105, 211 lbs) - Multi-faceted back to help in rushing and passing game.  Vision has been questioned but he's a strong day 2 prospect to compliment McCaffery.

Cody Ford (OT/G, Oklahoma (6036, 329 lbs) - RT/G prospect that comes very highly rated by media outlets.  Big, powerful, long and surprisingly athletic.  Could be in play in round 1.

Bobby Evans, OT/G, Oklahoma (6043, 312 lbs) - Day 2 or eary day 3 prospect who can play any position but center.  Panthers were very interested in him at the Oklahoma pro day.  Long armed, good hands and nasty.

Dru Samia, G, Oklahoma (6046, 305 lbs) - Nasty and I mean really nasty.  Poor agility and play strength is questioned but lots of experience and good hand technique.  Probably a day 3 prospect that might get into day 2.

Rock Ya-Sin, CB, Temple (5116, 190 lbs) - Strong press man coverage skills and a physical corner.  Strong agility scores at his pro day and could be an option as an outside corner in Carolina.  Seen as high as round 1 but likely day 2 prospect.

Tytus Howard, OT, Alabama State (6050, 322 lbs) - Athletic but developmental tackle prospect.

Kaleb McGary, OT, Washington (6071, 317 lbs) - Short armed but very athletic RT prospect.  Visited with the team.

Dre'Mont Jones, DT, Ohio State (6026, 281 lbs) - Weak combine and tape against the run is sub par but very strong production as a gap penetrator.  Could play the 3 or 5 technique in new hybrid D.  Will have visit with team.  Once thought of as a first rounder but likely there for the picking on day 2.

Nick Easley, WR, Iowa (5'11", 205 lbs) - JUCO transfer and slot type wide receiver that caught the attention of the scouting community with incredibly strong agility scores at his pro day.  Translates into the game as his route running is solid as well.  UDFA or late rounder at best.

Julian Love, CB, Notre Dame (5106, 195 lbs) -  Cover corner with fantastic agility.  Physicality and speed are questioned with him but he's a solid second day prospect because of the rest of his game.  Feet, hips, instincts, competitiveness and technique all praised.

Tim Harris, CB, Virginia (6'1", 205 lbs) - Injuries derailed his college career and will be important for him in the draft process but he's a Hurney special.  Highly rated coming out of high school and incredibly athletic but that didn't get to reach his potential for some reason (injuries here).  Had a good week at the Shrine practices as well.

Byron Murphy, CB, Washington (5106, 190 lbs) - Elite ball skills, developed frame, outstanding instincts, toughness and agility.  Round 1 ball-hawking corner if you want him.  Arguably the best corner prospect in the draft.

Derrick Baity, CB, Kentucky (6021, 197 lbs) - Good size but short arms.  Good patience and technique but slow transitions.  Physical in coverage but a non-factor against the run.  Able to match vertically but struggles finding the ball.  You get the hint.  There's potential but he needs development.

Tae Hayes, CB, App. State (5'10", 185 lbs) - Agility and intelligence praised.  He excelled in position drills at pro day.  Strong in zone but has improved in press and an coverage.  Willing and improved tackler.

Elijah Holyfield, RB, Georgia (5103, 217 lbs) - Combine hurt his stock but he's a freight train coming downhill with an aggressive running style.  His style would compliment McCaffery and make a good short yardage back.

Travis Homer, RB, Miami (5103, 201 lbs) - Strong combine brought him onto the radar as he would be a back who could somewhat replicate McCaffery's skill set so give the starter a breather.  Receiving and special teams ability help his chances of sticking as well as his work ethic and competitive drive.  Has a good all-around skill set.

Darnell Savage, S, Maryland (5106, 198 lbs) - Lightning fast with good instincts, IQ and coverage skills.  Has spent time in the nickel as the new hybrid type safety.  Versatility to play deep or fly up into the box and help the run.  Size is a knock on him but those cover skills and ability to close on throws from sideline to sideline are hard to ignore.

Taylor Rapp, S, Washington (5116, 208 lbs) - Versatile safety prospect who's physical and intelligent.  Speed was an issue in the pre-draft process and on tape but agility tested very strong.  Average in coverage but strong in run support.  Can you cover the ground needed to make plays in coverage?

Jonathan Abram, S, Mississippi St. (5113, 205 lbs) - Big time striker with questionable coverage and ball skills.  Skill set seems redundant to Eric Reid.

Brian Burns, DE, FSU (6046, 249 lbs) - Favorite EDGE fit for the Panthers.  Speed, burst, bend, productions, length, polish, variety of rush moves and versatility all strongly praised.  He's slender so run defense is going to be an obvious concern but his potential as a pass rusher is hard to ignore.  I don't see him making it out of the top 10.

Khalen Saunders, DT, Western Illinois (6003, 324 lbs) - Technique will need work as is expected coming from a small school but he can overwhelm O-Linemen with his blend of size, power, quickness and flexibility.  Very strong showing with the step up in competition at the Senior Bowl.

Andre Dillard, OT, Wash St. (6050, 315 lbs) - Best pure pass blocking tackle in the draft and a natural LT.  Questions about what he is asked to do in Washington State's scheme and how it will translate to the NFL and he needs to improve in the run game but the traits are certainly there to do it.  Pass protection is more critical though and if selected in the first he would likely start at LT week 1.  Reminds more of Kolton Miller last year who went 15th to the Raiders.  Incredible athletic testing and all the traits you could want makes him rise up the draft board but he could really use a year of seasoning.  Starting to look less likely he even makes it to 16 though.

Terrill Hanks, LB, New Mexico St. (6020, 242 lbs) - Productive 4 years in college but average athlete.  Converted from safety as a senior so has coverage ability though but he still has a lot to learn at the position.  Strong Senior Bowl practices as well.  Very poor 40 at combine but seems to be the result of a hamstring issue.  Strong agility scores at pro day.

Ty Gangi, QB, Nevada (6'2", 205 lbs) - Hardly seems like an NFL player from his tape but he's the type of player you take a flier on because of his strong arm.  Lot of work to do especially on the mental side of the position.  UDFA.

Christian Miller, DE/OLB, Alabama (6033, 247 lbs) Has injury concerns and used as a reserve but has strong production last year and he is very long and versatile.  He's an athletic and bendy edge prospect.  5-star prospect out of high school in South Carolina.

Jarrett Stidham, QB, Auburn (6023, 218 lbs) - Mobile QB with good mechanics and intelligence.  Then 2018 happened and now he's a developmental prospect who needs help with his confidence and timing.  Solid backup option to grab on day 3 though.

Jawaan Taylor, OT, Florida (6050, 312 lbs) - RT prospect with nastiness and adequate athleticism.  Physical and athletic tools are all there just needs some refinement.  Struggled at LT in 2017 but a move there isn't out of the question. Probably Top 10.

JoeJuan Williams, CB, Vanderbilt (6035, 211 lbs) - Another outside corner.  He is long and adept at press and contested catch battles.  Size and aggression are big pluses for him.  Lacks speed and needs work on his technique though.

Marquise Brown, WR, Oklahoma (5093, 166 lbs) - Small, fast, probably the best route runner in the class and some would argue the best receiver in the class.  Coming off a lisfranc injury so questions will surround him there and if he can take the hits in the NFL.

Maxx Crosby, DE/OLB, Eastern Michigan (6047, 255 lbs) - Developmental edge prospect who put up some impressive agility scores at the combine.  Plays with finesse thanks to his length and hand usage but he has room to grow but he'll need to because he lacks power in his game.

Jarell Addo, S, UMass (6'1", 201 lbs) - Safety prospect that literally jumped onto team's radars when he posted a 45" vertical jump and 11'-5" broad.  Played OLB and S in college and I'm not sure what the team views him as but I'd guess box safety.  Can't find much info but his leadership comes strongly praised.

Isaiah Johnson, RB, Eastern Illinois (5'11", 210 lbs) - He's had exceptional performances in the off-season showcase game circuit.  Had the opportunity to catch some passes too in the school's pass first air-raid offense.  Obviously a developmental prospect who will likely be a target after the draft.

Yodny Cajuste, OT, WVU (6047, 312 lbs) - Power, mobility and length are his foundations but he needs some improvements on the technical side of things.  Flexibility and a short set scheme (like Dillard) are knocks too.

D'Andre Walker, DE/OLB, Georgia (6023, 251 lbs) - Branded with the tweener label but that might be what the team is looking for and he has gotten better every year and can play in even and odd fronts.  First 3 steps are praised for his pass rush but he is seen as primarily a run defender currently.

LOCAL

Clifton Duck, CB, App. State (5'9" 170 lbs) - Small ball hawking nickel prospect.  Will likely struggle with tackling and run support but solid coverage skills.  Some returner value as well.

Jalin Moore, RB, App. State (5100 212 lbs) - Injury history and receiving production are concerns but seen as a tough runner who can pick up yards though contact who has good burst.

Greg Dortch, WR, Wake Forest (5071 173 lbs) - Small, nimble slot prospect.  Great production and very solid route running.  Returner value as well.

Anthony Ratliff-Williams, WR, UNC (6'1" 205 lbs) - Hampered by QB play but very strong at the catch point.  A former QB himself still learning the position is a good route runner but it still needs work.  He also offers additional value as a returner and the ability to be used multiple ways.

Keisean Nixon, CB, South Carolina (5'10" 193 lbs) - Press cover corner who is good in run support.  Special teams play praised but injury concerns (neck).

Ryan Anderson, C, Wake Forest (6'6" 305 lbs) - Durable prospect who's length and technique are praised.  Strength, mobility knocks though.

Zack Bailey, G, South Carolina (6'5" 299 lbs) - Versatile and good movement skills but lacks power and balance.  Better in pass protection currently.

OTHER

JJ Arcega-Whiteside, WR, Stanford (6020, 222 lbs) - Very highly rated prospect and seen as an excellent receiver at all three levels with some elite traits.  Analytics are big on him.  Hands and short area quickness are biggest knocks.  Has handled press when encountered but hasn't seen it much.  Working with Rickey Proehl in the lead up to the draft.  Probably looking at a day 2 selection if you want him.

Malik Gant, S, Marshall (5115, 209 lbs) - Suggested connection by beat writer.  Late day 3 or after the draft kind of guy but also likely a box safety which isn't a need in Carolina (Reid, Gaulden, Parms).  Coverage skills are questioned but he is noted as instinctive and physical that plays with a chip on his shoulder.

Jaylen Smith, WR, Lousiville (6022, 219 lbs) - Suggested connection by beat writer.  Solid with Jackson under center but poor year last year.  Team would likely be looking for him after to draft as a Funchess replacement.

Diontae Johnson, WR, Toledo (5104, 183 lbs) - Suggested connection by beat writer.  Might sneak into Day 2 but currently projected as a mid Day 3 selection.  Already good against press with plus athleticism.  Route running has been noted as an area that needs work.

Miles Boykin, WR, Notre Dame (6036, 220 lbs) - Suggested connection by beat writer.  Coming off a very very solid combine.  Size/Athleticism guy who has some learning to do at the position.  Ability to beat press, routes and playing to his size have all been highlighted as areas that need work.  Combine probably put him in Day 2 though and another that would likely be seen as a player to replicate Funchess' skill set.

Mecole Hardman, WR, Georgia (5102, 187 lbs) - Suggested connection by beat writer.  Former CB that is incredibly fast and still looks that fast with pads on.  New to the position so has things to work on but has return skills and exciting potential.  Seen him projected as high as Day 2.

Dawson Knox, TE, Ole Miss (6043, 254 lbs) - Suggested connection by beat writer.  Potential pick because he wasn't used very much.  Great athleticism, all-around talent is seen as good as well.  Not much time spend at the position so there is a lot to learn.  Potential picks with little tape tend to come off the board late in the 3rd at best.

Tony Pollard, RB, Memphis (5115, 210 lbs) - Suggested connection by beat writer.  Strong return skills and great showings in the draft all star games.  Would be McCaffery backup to lighten his load and can somewhat replicate his skill set.  Late in the draft prospect or after.

James Williams, RB, Wash St. (5094, 197 lbs) - Suggested connection by beat writer.  Would be another McCaffery backup to lighten his load and can somewhat replicate his skill set. Another back with an all-around skill set and probably the best pass catching back in the draft.

The organization has been pretty upfront about what their plans are in the past and I don't expect this year to be any different.  We say smokescreen a lot but if the team says they are looking for a certain thing they tend to do just that.  With that in mind and the draft now almost here, these are some observations from this year's meeting list.

Observations:

QB - Said they will be looking around for a backup and they are looking for a backup.  Looks like 3rd might be the highest they will go to grab one.  Grier appears to be the wildcard though.

RB - The talk from the organization has been for those who can try to mimic McCaffery's skill set to take reps away and some of the beat writers have suggested connections to a couple of those types but all the meetings (except Homer) have been about a compliments to his style.

WR - Meeting are showing mainly an ability to separate with speed or strong route running (minus Jazz).  Beat writers suggested connections have the some of same type and but also a bunch of big red zone targets.

TE - Hardly any action or talk here which is odd because this is a very deep class.  If I'm taking a guess after the Duarte signing it would be a move TE here to compete with him and Vander Laan.

OL - The organization seems serious about what they said going into the off season.  Tackles and particularly ones with ability to play guard litter the meeting list.  Would probably be more of a shock to not see multiple picks here.

DL - Hybrid D has been all the talk and two types keep showing up, but versatility is key.  The 3/5/9 tech and ones who can play the 9 and stand up and rush from the OLB.  Both are currently big needs.

LB - Undersized and athletic if I were to venture a guess (there has only been 2).  Also needs to be able to cover.

CB - Looked like nickel early in the process but all the interest as of late surrounds big corners to play on the outside.  Only thing I can think of is the team wants to be able to move Jackson around the D like he was used at LSU.  Bradberry's contract is coming due too so it could be an insurance policy there as well.

S - Almost all have spent alot of time playing corner or nickel as well.

With this years meeting list and last years draft, the ability to be multiple and match up any look on defense without having to change personnel is becoming more and more evident.  On the other side of the ball it's all about Newton.  I'd expect this year to be heavy on the protection because the last 2 years were heavy on the weapons.

Looking at the last two drafts, half the top 100 picks were used on versatile weapons for Newton (McCaffery, Samuel, Moore and Thomas at pick 101).  Another pick went to Moton and the other 3 were to hybrid defenders (Jackson, Gaulden, Hall).

SELECTIONS FROM LIST:

Brian Burns, DE, FSU (6046, 249 lbs) - Favorite EDGE fit for the Panthers.  Speed, burst, bend, productions, length, polish, variety of rush moves and versatility all strongly praised.  He's slender so run defense is going to be an obvious concern but his potential as a pass rusher is hard to ignore.  I don't see him making it out of the top 10.

Greg Little, OT, Ole Miss (6052, 310 lbs) - Athletically very gifted, inconsistent in his technique.  Another highly rated prospect can play both on both the left and right. Likely a first rounder

Will Grier, QB, WVU (6024, 217 lbs) - Local kid and a pretty strong QB prospect.  Arm strength has been questioned but combine workouts seemed to quell that fear a bit.  Could be in consideration for the Panthers if still sitting there in round 3.

Christian Miller, DE/OLB, Alabama (6033, 247 lbs)  Has injury concerns and used as a reserve but has strong production last year and he is very long and versatile.  He's an athletic and bendy edge prospect.  5-star prospect out of high school in South Carolina.

Terry Godwin, WR, Georgia (5110, 168 lbs) - Fast and has been exceptional route runner at the Shrine practices.  Seen him as high as the 5th but likely a 7th/UDFA type.

Elijah Holyfield, RB, Georgia (5103, 217 lbs) - Combine hurt his stock but he's a freight train coming downhill with an aggressive running style.  His style would compliment McCaffery and make a good short yardage back.

They obviously met with them, but there was no mention in the pre-draft process of meeting with Scarlett or Daley.  UDFAs Utah S Corrion Ballard, Nichols St. WR Damion Jeanpiere Jr and Cal LB Jordan Kunaszyk didn't come up either.
