Focus on building OLine

1. Cut: Kalil

2. Slide Moton over to LT, where he has proven he can play

3. Hire a RT reasonably priced.   Whether it be Williams coming off the injury, Donavon Smith who has underwhelmed at LT and people said would be a better RT coming out

4. Grab the 2nd-3rd best OG in the draft in the 2nd.  There will be 1 tops interior OL go in the 1st this year with the talent elsewhere.  Michael Deiter or Chris Lindstrom will be available  for us.  As solid as VanRoten looked at times, he was a liability.  And it showed how much the loss of Norwell hurt.  VanRoten is good for depth, but we need to get a Norwell replacement.  And one of these guys in the 2nd will do.

5. Work our way back up for a Center- our 2 3rds packaged together value at about the #57 spot. Centers rarely go High.  Kalil was a late 2nd, Bears all everything Center went around #56-57. Package the 3rds, or if you can, the 3rd and a 4th (keeping our 3rd comp). Kalil when out, our OL dropped off.  Larsen, like VanRoten, is good depth guy.  Kalil was still avg.  He really showed his age.  A younger Bradbury from State, who is projected the #2 Center, would be a Nice pickup at the bottom of the 2nd

LT: Moton

LG: (2nd rounder) Deiter, Linstrom, etc

C: (Other 2nd) Bradbury

RG: Turner

RT: (FA) Williams, Smith, etc

At 16, I don’t think I’d be happy. If he’s deemed a guard before the draft, he could be in play at 47 since guards drop versus tackles. I’d love to see him at 47.

He won't be anyone close to 47.  If we don't resign Williams do you see OT being in play at 16?  How many do you think will go in the top 20?

I was fairly pessimistic about the team moving on from Matt Kalil, but after Tepper's recent interview with Bill Voth I'm regaining hope that it will happen (along with Poe). He sounds content to let Hurney handle the draft and Ron to coach the players. However, he also sounds like he wants decisions made sooner rather than later, more attention to analytics, addressing concerns such as time management/challenges, and handle the business side. Perhaps he'll have a little more say in the bookkeeping to start, as it also sounds like he's looking to bring in players via the draft while looking to use free agency as a tool to land high-value free agents.

Re-signing Williams completes the right side of the OL. Go out and sign Ramon Foster to man the LG spot and bring some leadership to a young locker room, put Taylor Moton next to him, and all that is left is the center position. Matt Paradis is a possibility here, and then grab at least one OL in the draft (preferably a starting center or guard, though a guard might be better if we can land Paradis for a long-term contract).

Moton/Foster/Paradis/Turner/Williams with Van Roten, Larsen, a draft pick, and then one or two more tackles for depth. The team might be able to sustain some of the injuries that have plagued the OLs over the last decade, and if so retain the options that it provides the offense which Tepper was speaking on.

I'm hoping for a pass rusher at #16 and a DT somewhere in our four picks in the first three rounds, but other than that I'm good with beefing up the OL... as long as also find a legit FS.

You have been wanting a FS forever, not sure if we will ever draft one in the first 2 rounds with this staff.

Safety we should go FA. They are cheap nowadays and Gaulden is only a backup. We could resign Reid and sign a decent FA S (like Collins) for under $10m total. Mathieu got $7m last year. If Thompson drops in draft like Harrison (SMH over Gaulden) then maybe but he looked awful against Clemson.

None of those OTs scream to me anything other than reaches. Maybe in the 2nd, really depends on Williams. I just hope we are smart in FA.

I think you are undervaluing some of the OTs.  Wouldn't surprise me at all if 3 of them have top 20 grades on some teams boards.  You are making it sound like there are 32 guys better then any of the offensive tackles in this draft.

I agree that D-line is extremely strong this year but that doesn't mean the 2nd O-lineman might not have a better grade than the 7th D-lineman off of the board, which is very easily a situation that could happen where we are picking.

I played safety so I'm biased, but I think a lot of people would be shocked by the difference a legit rangy safety would make on our D. Centerfielder safeties hide a lot of secondary issues and allow you to play a lot more aggressively in the front seven.

Some teams boards, maybe. John Ross was top 10 on Cincy’s board and that’s all it takes. I just don’t see any of them as sure thing top 10 guys and overall don’t think this is a good class. That said Davis and Brown are staying in school and they were potential top 15 picks.

Tackle is a position people reach for like Oakland did last year. That’s why I’d best on at least 1 top 20. It doesn’t look like a really good tackle class. It looks more like 2017 and maybe you get a Ramzcyk or maybe you get Bolles or Robinson. We’ll see after the bowls and combine where they start to slot.

They might not be top 10 guys, but we are picking 16.  The might line up there.

I guess we are looking at different list and rankings.  Out of curiosity, you basing this off of Walterfootball?

Either way a lot of these list are early and still very fluid.  Things always change after some of the all-star games and the combine.
