David tepper speaks.

Words mean nothing to me.  And before somebody jumps on the "hypocrite" bandwagon, I definitely was *NOT* one of the people jumping up and down demanding that Tepper/Hurney/Rivera "say something" as an end-of-year summary.  Because I don't care what they SAY only what they DO.  Words are just as often used to obfuscate as they are to clarify.

And Tepper DID choose to leave his team in the hands of the Hurney/Rivera "brain" trust for another year.

That's the only action I need to know.  My judgement as to the wisdom of that act is well known by now.

As a few of us have said— the guy isn’t going to come in like Hulk smash for some snap judgement quarterbacks and storm the change.

its methodical, observation, get some understanding, learn the football side as he said.

hes got plans in the works, no doubt, and this is it for the current staff, win or bust.

i do think after hearing him talk that on the defensive side it’s more playcalling and coaching and on the offensive side it’s more oline talent.

im still saying Left Tackle first— there’s not many worth it, so you take the best one early. There’s tons of defensive talent, so much a lot of it will drop. So you can get 1st round defensive guys in the 2nd round.

thats just how it always works. Scarcity rules and all that.

i feel better after listening to him—

Being the owner isn’t a popularity contest—

you don’t come in all American Idol and have fans text in thumbs up or down on firings and hirings— thats how you get the Redskins...

and you don’t just come in like a storm and clean house, only a dumbass would do that.

If he did as everyone here wants— everyone would be yeh— then every peanut would turn flamethrower as soon as a new staff was hired,..

and then when the 3-13 seasons start,.. there won’t be a Huddle— back to scratching or whatever you guys did before.

so again, only a fool plays fan popularity to make decisions,.. and only a bigger fool just comes in and cleans house without getting some honest assessments in.

the dude just bought the team, regardless of what the snap chat generations definition of “just” is—

im in reserve mode—

Emphasized good oline gives you great chance to win and we have to make it better.

Dont like him only saying positive things about rivera/hurney.

He seems very thoughtful but im not sure what exactly to glean from that.  It will be impressive if he actually manages to fix the oline and fix this discipline/time management issues he said he cares so much about. Because these have been systemic problems for the panthers for several years under Rivera.

He was subtly critical of Ron on two-maybe three- occasions:

1. He mentioned that the defensive changes were made too late.  From his world--timing is everything.

2.  He said something like, "I don't want to lose ten seconds...I don't want to lose 5 seconds..." Obviously relating that to clock management.

3.  He mentioned that Ron has not lost the locker room--that suggests he analyzed the decision to retain Rivera based on the damage it might do to remove him...I almost thought he was going to say, "He has not lost the locker room, yet..."

Let's face it--Cam is a strong personality that might be a problem with a Mike Ditka or Bill Parcells type of coach.  Maybe that counts for something.

Sounded to me---based only on this----he is more fond of Hurney than RR.

Yeh one of Cams interviews about expectations with Norv coming in was his worry about being too authoritative,. f this and F that, be this, don’t do that, make him into something he’s not etc.

then he said he warmed up to Norv, Cams in like “let’s do what you do baby, what you like we do that better”

not everyone is going to be like that. Norv seems more like a Holmgren— that was his approach to Brett Favre.

Dave is getting his lay of the land— and he’s going to identify other staff that he likes as the time goes on. This year he may have people identified already that the timing isn’t good.

sometimes the fastest way to go is to step back and move slower.

not popular with Snap Chat fanatics but it’s how you get things done the right way.

Which isn't especially comforting.

Rivera has shown he can win more games with a superior GM. Marty had only a slightly better record with a very similar head coach.

I agree....However, I got the feeling that Tepper has regrets (rookie season) and will take his job and role seriously.  I think he is not going to measure his success by ticket sales but wants to win.  His comment about the OL is comforting, and maybe he was referencing the neglect of the GMs to address this properly.  He was brilliant to tip his hat to Matsko--he is the best coach we have.

I felt that he is watching closely and knows what he wants---and I really like what I heard.  He was not praising Marty and Ron as much as he was defending his decision to keep them on for a while.

I feel better about things after hearing him.
