If you whiff on picking a center, you're screwed. If the best one in the draft is available when it comes to your first round pick, you take him rather than risk waiting for the 47th pick. D-linemen are all over the draft and all over free agency. There's one starter-quality center potentially in free agency this year... and he'll probably not hit the market.

I would love to see Moton  at LT, but Jourdan needs more than, "I  believe..." because there has been no evidence they  want  him there because they had a need this year and did not play him there.

We all see the skill set in Moton, but I do not see the willingness of the staff. 

Now if your reason is salary cap, as suggested, re-signing Williams will be expensive, as will retaining or cutting Kalil....a lot could happen, but can anyone tell me why people  think---based on logic  and decisions NOT  to play him at LT this year----why folks are assuming Moton to LT--assuming that JR is saying that...

Imagine Williams gets a deal for 4 years, $55m and gives us a chance to match. 

You know Moton can play RT.

You cut Kalil and put either Moton or a rookie there.

Now, instead of having $25-30m of your cap invested in a lame LT and a RT recovering from knee surgery, you have 2 tackles who can play at a level equal to the Williams/Kalil lineup at a savings of about $20m.  Let's say that savings was spent on  a DT, FS, and maybe a C.

In the draft, you go  for DE and OT. 

Just one of many ways this could play out.  But I would try Moton at LT---with no reason to assume they will.

I hope that Moton can play LT but I cant say I have seen much since a game in preseason. I want that to be the answer at LT but noone played him there even when we should have at least tried it this year.

I felt really good about William's pre injury and up to the point he came back too early. He looked afewul and I'm not willing to bet he will come back and be the same after that BS. If he does come back, we need a draft pick as insurance.

The Texans finished 8-8 that year. Hardly terrible. Delhomme was completing 64% of his passes with an 8-1 TD/INT ratio before he got hurt in the Falcons game. We still finished 7-9, but undoubtably would have been better had Delhomme not been hurt.

I'm not convinced any DE at 16 is going to come in and be a day one starter and play at an above average level.  (would be nice)  I almost think we need to upgrade the DT spot through the draft and the DE spot through free agency.  We could still draft a DE but that way he won't be expected to start or produce at a high level early.

I do think we can find a day one starter at DT in the second though.  How many DTs are in the top 50 on some of these list?  8-10?

As far as center goes, pick 77 would have got you the 4th center off of the board in 2018, 3rd in 2017, and 3rd in 2016.  Teams don't draft centers unless they need one.  Not a position you really carry extra on and that is why they drop so much in the draft, like FBs.

The pick at 16 could be really interesting.  There are some CBs that could be there, I actually think that is a bigger need than some people think.  If Williams isn't' resigned I actually think OT would be huge here.  Or maybe someone like Cody Ford, he could possible take care of the guard spot with the potential of being a tackle one day.  Maybe a safety drops.  Linebacker might be in play especially if any of the 3-4 rumors are true.

Either way, like you said would be nice if we can "make due" at one of the O-line spots. Maybe Mahon develops.  That would free up a draft spot and we certainly have other places that could use some help also.

To be honest...if this (seemingly) obvious thing isn't done, my apathy will grow even more in this team next year.  I get if somebody throws a ton of money at Daryl, but our OT situation looks to be "solved" if DW comes back from injury well.  If Hurney and Rivera screw this up?  Yikes.
