Is Norv turner really the OC for this team future??

To actually answer your question (that I guess must have been loaded or something), I don't think that we've necessarily had the time to know. We do know that he's considered to have at least a good, if not great, football mind by his colleagues. We also know that the offense was pretty much humming by the time we met Pittsburgh. After that point, Cam started missing throws that looked to be easy throws. So, I'd like to see what he can do with a better line, receivers with (now) a full season under their belt with him as the OC, and a QB that stays healthy more than half a season.

I guess we get used a one sided view.  What I saw the Rams do yesterday looked a lot like Norv.  

Short to intermediate passing game.  No bombs being thrown

using is WR in the running game.  

Spreading the ball around

Once again you all forget we were putting up about 30 a game before Cam was hurt   

The issue is on defense   Leave Norv alone

At this point, the question is really good enough for the Panthers. After Shula, it's more than Ron deserves.

In all honesty other than the CJ incident.. I'd pretty much agreed with most of his moves.. I wanted Ron to find a OC he trust and let control the offense so he could keep his conservative hands off of.. So to answer my own question yes... He is probably the only way Ron and Hurney will save their jobs next year. 

If he gets a healthy Cam for a full season..

So Norv comes in and erases our horrible memories of Shula but now we have to fire him because he’s not young like McVay and hasn’t coached with McVay and hasn’t pissed next to him in a public bathroom.

the cj thing was just stupid.  and norv was kinda an ass to him bringing in cmc to score after cj did all the work (that time), and not using him at the end of games....    stupid.   he also had a qb who couldn't throw.  so, i want him gone with ron, but he could be decent.

The red zone was kind of crazy. Norv had his good and bad moments, but at one point I realized that Cam lack of deep ball was causing an issue and it got easier to defend us. A lot of ppl think the last game was a fluke I don't believe so. When you can attack deep and at least get pass interferences, you change everything. I haven't seen that since before injury from Cam.

I also didn't like the CJ thing at all. We need a 2nd RB to get a decent amount of carries.

Norv is fine. Cam doesn't need a McVay. He just needs a play caller that has a plan and can make simple adjustments. Plus the route combinations are so much better with Norv. He actually schemes targets open instead of simply relying on someone to get open by beating the defender. I saw more rub routes this year than the last 3 combined.

Is Norv the future….of course not, he’ll be 67 before the season starts and was not looking hard for a new coaching job when we called.  That aside, his work with the Panthers is still very much in progress. He inherited a great unknown since Shula was not exactly a master at creating situations that extract the most from his talent.  Nor did Shula and staff do much to improve Cam as a passer.  It was easier to just roll with what was there than try to improve their performance.  So Turner had some fundamental work to do, and I think he did a lot of it.

In as much as shipping Rivera out would likely be the end of Turner here, I can see where that may have been a deciding factor in staying the course.  Giving Cam and the offense some continuity to develop one more year makes some sense.

Turner is not perfect.  Compared to Shula he looks like Don Coryell.  But, as I said in another thread, he does have a history of trying to force what he wants to do rather than what is working in a given game, or even what his roster does best.  He certainly is not alone in that among OCs or offensive gurus. 

We have some liabilities on our balance sheet, but Turner is not one of them.

The CJ thing seems to be a major mistake on his part.. Not finding ways to use him when he was here.. Then letting him walk and over using CMC could be a catastrophe down the road...

At most Norv will last until Ron’s last season in 2020. He’s with Rivera who barring a great, miracle season in 2019 will be gone next year.

I’d bet anyone $50.00 right now if Rivera has a losing season next year Tepper will replace the coaching and GM.

Anyone who can't appreciate how good this offense played with how badly Cam Newton was injured just wasn't watching the games.  I think Norv turned Cam's weaknesses into strengths and managed to produce an offense that could move the ball with a decimated o-line.  How can you argue against that?
