Rivera will officially call Panthers Defense and could try to bring back Wilks

As frustrating as this season has been, this will be an upgrade from Washington and even Wilks calling plays for the team. If we can get Wilks back as an assistant head coach and allow Washington to focus back on the D line, I believe our defense will be much improved. We could all see what an impact bad play calls had on the defense this past year, it’s no coincidence So many vets looked out of place. Re tooling the talent on defense is another story, but I do feel comfortable that the play calls will be much improved next year.

we could look for an experienced DC with a resume, you know, try something new this time instead of bringing back a friend...

Yeah like that would ever happen under Rivera. Him being DC is probably the best option.

Am I the only one who thought Wilks sucked ass too? We had one of the worst defenses in the 2nd half of 2017. Wish we could finally hire a proven DC to pair with Rivera, but Rivera too scared for his job to do that. Status quo it is then.

You are not the only one. He was terrible.

Let's continue to bring back former players,  coaches, GM's and expect better results. RR is going to continue to call defensive plays, wow. I'd find it hard to believe that he wasn't calling plays most of the season. If he wasn't and allowed the season to tank with 7 straight loses before he intervened,  then he should be fired anyway. The process within this organization baffles me. I'm holding onto hope for Tepper stil.

Over the last 4 games the defense gave up an avg of 18 a game vs around 26 when Washington was calling plays.. take it for what it’s worth.

Ron is consolidating power, taking control of what he knows and that’s defense. He’s not putting his future in the hands of someone else when his *** is on the line

Honestly, I think Tepper is kinda trying to do with a defensive coach what LA is doing with Sean McVay in that essentially Ron will call the plays on defense and let Norv Handle Defense.  LA seems to basically let McVay run the offense and Wade Phillips handles everything defense.
