Matt Lafluer, Kliff Kingsbury and the Sean McVay effect.

When we were hoping that Rivera would be fired a number of posters wanted us to go after a young offensive mind. From a fan perspective this is fine. You want who you want. I wanted one too. But I don't want our front office (and hopefully they're not) having a pre-determined "type" of head coach before they even start interviewing. When a GM or owner has this pre-determined type from the outset it can make candidates who fit that type look appealing to those decisions makers, even if they're not otherwise qualified. "We need a Sean McVay type, who the closest to that type available?"

Enter the Packers new coach Matt Lafluer and the yet to be announced new coach of the Cardinals, Kliff Kingsbury. Now I have no idea if either of them will be any good, and Lafleur in my view is a lot better hire than Kingsbury, but there's little doubt that without the success of McVay, Lafleur and Kingsbury would still be looking to establish themselves in the league.

When it's time to find our new offensive mind, I hope we take an approach like The Bears. They noticed the success of McVay, but they didn't attribute it to his age, or to his hipness, what I fear the Cardinals may be doing. They attributed McVay's success to his innovation. We don't need to hire the hot new thing. A smart, hardworking, innovative old man would be just fine imo.

Seems to me that unexpectedly Norv has turned out to be a smart, hardworking, innovative old man. As long as he is here, having a defensive minded head coach seems okay

But a defensive mind head coach with a shitty defense is not okay.

True. If next year the defense isn't top 10, Ron will be gone.  If we don't make the playoffs then Ron is gone.  I was encouraged to see the change in the defense at the end of the year and the fact that we have had a pretty defense over the years.

McVay is very overrated. If he doesn't have that roster, you are looking at a 6-10 team at best. Franchises are chasing unicorns. I can see LaFleur doing well because of Aaron. He will most likely give him full control of the offense (which turned out to be a mistake under McCarthy, Rodgers is not the field general people believe him to be) and move into a single back set, which could cause the defense to go unbalanced.

Kingsberry = awful hire. No way to spin it.

McVay is not overrated. No one was talking about his roster being so talented last season. He took a team that wasn’t supposed to be any good into the playoffs. Signed guys that no one wanted like Whitworth, Woods and making a trade for Watkins. McVay is a great young head coach. Now, the effect is overrated.

wait what? totally overlooking the signing of Suh. Also, McVay didnt sign those players or trade for them..... Les Snead did. Les built that roster with Fisher.

McVay has taken advantage of the 16 second rule with Goff. Which will most likely get changed by the competition commitee. McVay has been wreckless with his timeouts and thanks to his talent he has done well on ALL of his 4th & medium go for its. The dude burned 3 timeouts in first 18 minutes of a second half TWICE this year. He is a prime example of a coach bailed out by the talent on his roster.

Teams wanted Whitworth, and the only reason they got Woods was because they were very thin at WR and had a trade-able player in Willaim Hayes. Watkins isnt even on the roster and really didnt do much than what a middle of the road WR would do. again, what?

Im talking about the 2017 roster. Mcvay added Watkins, Whitworth and Woods. Turned Goff into what a #1 Qb looked like. Hes a great coach. Thats the difference between a Fisher/Rivera and Mcvay. Thats why 8 nfl teams just recently fired their HCs for new ones.

And Suh isnt a great player like he once was anymore. Do you know whos not so good at stopping the run? The ram with Suh and Donald. Suh wanted to go there to win a championship.

Mcvay is a great HC. You can have your Fisher and Rivera.

Might want to do some more research - check and see who was a top run stuffing DT in the NFL this year.... oh and years before..... The Rams are not good at stopping the run because of their linebacker core, attack the middle of the field is the weakness of that defense.

Again, Les Snead added those players. Also, you might want to do some research on the 16 second rule as well, that has a lot to do with Goff's success.

You do not know what you are talking about, as clearly shown above. McVay is McDaniels 2.0

Man you are as close to stupid if not stupid. Mcvay is McDaniels 2.0? A guy who has a 11-17 record and couldn’t keep his job for more than 28 games. Go away. Its like talking to the wall with you

This coming from the person claiming Suh is no longer good. McVay hand picked his trades and signings. Claiming the d line is the reason people can run on the rams.

as it turns out everything I’ve said is accurate and I  have my opinion that mcvay is McDaniels 2.0

while everything you said was wrong, and expressed one opinion.

nothing more to really discuss until 2021 when the rams are looking for a new coach.
