If I were Tepper....Rivera and Cam are a package deal.

How is an MVP quarterback in any way a package deal with a coach he barely likes? Cam was drafted in Rivera's first season. Doesn't mean they're related in any way beyond that. Have some sense, dude. Cam is under contract through 2020 and Rivera is likely out after next year. Despite what you may want (but won't outwardly admit), Cam isn't going anywhere after next season.

Depends on his shoulder. If he recovers 100% then he will be here through 2020. If not he won't be here after next year either. There is a big debate at the point of contract negotiations after 2020 whether any quarterback will be worth 35 million a year unless they are Tom Brady if they are on the wrong side of 30 especially if they have an injury history and rely on their legs as much as  their arm.

At this point they prob are a package deal... at least for the next two years.

Unless they extend Cam or cut him it is going to be very hard to find a coach to come in next year with Cams contact up after 2020.

I hear that a lot, but it never seems to play out that way.

Even the worst teams in the league still have multiple candidates interested in their head coaching job.

You dont think a new owner is a factor? It would be one thing if it was the same owner firing Rivera...but a new owner who has his own vision?

Let's be real. When is a guy who's taking the place of a fired head coach going to be coming into a good situation? In 99% of those scenarios, the head coach was fired for a reason.

But then you have to factor in the egos. A lot of these guys come in with the mindset that while the situation is bad, they're good. And whatever's wrong, they can fix it.

There are 32 NFL head coaching jobs in the world. When one of them comes open, people are gonna want it. And yeah, I believe there'll be good candidates. I think more often than not when a bad hiring is made, it's not because there weren't good candidates. It's because the team chose the wrong guy.

What kinda situation did Steve Kerr walk into when he took over the GSW after they fired their coach?

Extreme example in a diff sport but good situations do exist.  Especially if it’s decided the coaching is holding talent back.  Like rams Jeff Fisher > McVay.

Good situations happen occasionally, but they're the exception, not the rule. And an extremely rare exception at that.

Eight teams fired head coaches this offseason. All of them can argue that they have good selling points.and they'll try to spin those points no matter how terrible their overall situations might look.

The Packers can say "hey come here and you get to coach Aaron Rodgers". The Browns can say "we're gonna build around Baker Mayfield. The Buccaneers can say... "Hey, Florida is nice". The Bengals can say...

Well, you get my point.

I think Norv is the reason why Rivera is still here.

We finished the year 14th in the league in points per game.  With a QB that couldn't throw deep, which is what he is best at.  With an OC that likes to go deep.

Honestly I thought the offense did some good things early in the year.

You bring in a new coach and cam is starting over yet again.

I'm not saying I would have kept the coaching staff but I do understand it.

Yep and some of his advisors pursued Ed him to not overreact because I do believe he definitely thought about making a change

    • I think it will be hard to not go edge in the second if we go QB first. Say you have Starks, one of Bond/Egbuka, and maybe one Edge (don't have a name to throw out that is end of 1st round projected and may slide)... do you still go Starks? Just curious. I haven't looked into starks much, as I've been focused on QB, WR, and DL prospects.
