If I were Tepper....Rivera and Cam are a package deal.

Just a lot of variables.  What if the guy behind center plays great next year?  Do we sit him the following year?

What if he doesn't need to, Cam plays very well, we still have these threads, the offensive line and defensive lines suck, Rivera's poor coaching costs us two games and we end with a mediocre record? Because that's a hell of a lot more likely.

Definitely an option.  I don't think they're going to play Cam next year though.

Rivera needs to be fired independently. Not because of Cam, but because of poor coaching decisions.  Coincidentally Cam's shoulder injury timing is uncanny as it just seems to line up with needing a new Coach.  Tepper prob wants to give Cam a year to heal, but won't want a new coach being the one taking the heat for moving on from Cam in case is shoulder is shot....which is a real possibility. It would be better that if we have to move on from Cam....we use that as an opportunity to also let go of Rivera. So the new coaches don't have to deal with that frenzy.

He bought the team in May of last year.

He's had from May 2018 to January 2019 to "get the lay of the land".  He also has the ability to watch video of past performances.

This whole "Tepper is just confused and doesn't get what's happening so he needs more time" meme is total B.S.  He knows *EXACTLY* what Ron and Marty are and *EXACTLY* what they're doing and he consciously chose to ride the "I would have taken a shot too" Pony.

Yep bought it in May.

i would say that’s very recent and you get a lay of the land.

buying a football team and getting the lay of the land Isn’t the same as playing fantasy football my man,..

sometimes the way to go faster is by taking a step back.

and your comment of acting like May 2018 to now which is 7 months is such a long time ago,..

what Billion dollar franchise with employees, celebrities and professional athletes have you ever purchased?

its very recent and smart people take time to evaluate,.. look at how offseasons go,.. and get an idea and real evaluation on what’s out there to replace what you have with.

so yes, he’s getting a lay of the land, it’s all new.

If I had the time, I'd create another Panthers message board. the thisboardrocks board is comprised of about four people now, and this one is really becoming a cesspool of bad threads by juliosantos, chuck, themaulclaw and a few random racists. I really think highly of Igo, but the Huddle of 2009 is not the Huddle of 2019. Add in Igor pooing every post he sees and Igo's "could this be our new franchise QB?" "how about this guy as our franchise QB?" clickbait threads, and I'm just about at the end of my rope.

i've read several posts intimating this sentiment.  this is the unfortunate reality of the internet in general in 2019.  it's why i mostly lurk.  actual discussion is lacking in a mountain of shitposting.

If he leaves, it'd be a mutual decision. Cam loves it here. I don't think his opinion of staying is in any way swayed by a few threads on a message board, just like the whole fanbase can't be judged by a few bandwagoners.

His decision wont be swayed by the message board, but his decision can be swayed by his agent and whatever business endorsements he has off the field. Cam is a star, he could want to go to a bigger market before his career is up. Imagine how much his stardom would blossom playing in a market like New York. I wouldn't be shocked if he left Carolina or at least test the FA market when he becomes a FA.

I also share the same fear as the OP. The thing is even if Tepper lacks faith in Rivera and wants to give Cam another year, the problem is that we risk a losing season with a new HC. A HC that will bring in his own OC, and with that is another learning curve for Cam on top of his rehab.

Even though I want Rivera gone. I do like Turner and the timing of these events has put us between a rock and a hard place.

How quickly people forget what a healthy Cam Newton can do in this league. You fans act like it wasn't just 3 years ago when this man was the MVP of the league and led the Panthers on a Superbowl run with nothing to work with on offense besides Greg Olsen.smh

If Cam shoulder is healthy we are in the playoffs right now. How can people give up on after 1 bad season? At least let the man get his shoulder right before we make these silly statements.

I wouldn't be shocked if he left Carolina when he becomes a FA in 2020. He is really to big a star to be playing in Charlotte. People must forgot how little attention we got before we drafted Cam. They only talk about in the media because of Cam Newton. Yet his own fans are ungrateful.smh

Rivera was also coach MVP...

No one is questioning what Can can do healthy. They’re questioning IF he can get healthy and it’s a valid concern.

That said, I disagree they’re tied together in a package as I’m willing to give Cam time to prove he can heal whereas I wouldn’t be mad parting with Rivera.

Yeah, the 'patience, patience, don't be hasty' attitude a lot of people have is a little confusing to me.  You have over a decade to judge Hurney on, and Rivera while not as bad, is still making the same mistakes he was making eight years ago.

Then on the other hand, you have an injured Cam who played pretty damn good through half a season until he just couldn't anymore and we have no small number of people say we should just outright cut him.  It'd all be funny as hell to me if I wasn't a Panthers fan I guess.

I was really excited for Tepper but it’s becoming obvious why JR and the other owners preferred him over the other candidates to be come the Panthers new owner.

Tepper is a businessman and currently more involved in a practice facility and the business side of things rather than running the team. Right now a new coach and GM don’t make him money and if anything firing them would cost him money and effect the bottom dollar.

So far the PR team let him know that the fans wanted the logo at mid field and cool uniforms and he gave the go ahead.

Tepper invested over 2 billion into this team. I doubt he made that purchase without doing his research into the players and the staff. The silent treatment he is giving us and rumors from reporters so far are not very promising for things to come.

Did JR put something in the contract somewhere that says if you purchase the Panthers you have to run the organization the same way I did?
