If I were Tepper....Rivera and Cam are a package deal.

Cam and Rivera are a package deal....they'll both go at the same time...which is why Ron is being retained for one more season.

This is speculative but it makes the most sense to me.

If I was Tepper trying to navigate this trickbag right now, this is what my understanding would be and what I would do.

I would understand that Cam has immense physical talent (when healthy), immense brand value, he sells a lot of tickets, helps draw primetime games, and is good within the community.  I'd also understand the reality that his shoulder is a big issue and for the moment. I'd have to assume he may not be available next year.  I just spent 2.5 billion cash on this team and I can't afford to lose for two seasons and risk creating a hibernating fan base which affects the bottom line, merch sales, concessions.

Ideally I need to keep winning....especially as we get into new stadium negotiations.  If the city of Charlotte is seeing less tax money because of a losing team...they'll not want to put out as much for the new stadium (Far less people go out and spend money to watch a losing team).  Charlotte really does make bank when the Panthers are winning.

Winning next year may be possible we have good young WR's. Ian Thomas is going into year two and should develop further.  DJ Moore should be a more polished route runner and with added strength can hopefully protect the ball better.  We have a well regarded offensive play caller.  We have two third round picks.  Feasibly rounds two and three could rebuild the entire interior OL. We should be able to land a flagship pass rusher in round 1.  Moton has developed nicely.  CMC is on another planet, and Kyle Allen was an awesome surprise and he may be able to make life a lot easier....maybe.

Defensively we should see some improvement in the secondary.  Jackson will be another year developed, Gaulden also showed some flashes against NO and should be further developed.  With a 1st round DE we actually should see a bit more production out of the DTs.

Outside of the Steelers game....every game was close fairly close.  A few tweaks and we could be back on our way.

Losing is also very possible.

Depends on what type of production we get at QB.  Granted it was against NO resting Brees, but Allen looked good....film may catch up to him, we'll see. Ideally I'd like to see a vet compete with Allen (Ryan Tannehill comes to mind) and maybe a draft pick.  Unfortunately QB is the most important position so this is a big deal.  I'd put our odds at about 60 percent to be below .500 next season just because of this.

Ron Rivera made some bad hires. He also doesn't seem to manage the clock effectively. More importantly....our division rivals have seen 8 years of him...so they know exactly what he's going to do.  There are no surprises...and that's a big big problem. I'd like to fire Rivera, but I don't want the next coach and GM being the one's to take the heat if Cam doesn't heal and we cut him after next year.  It would be better for Rivera(Hurney included) and Cam to leave at the same time or stay if Cam magically heals and has an mvp type year which is what it'll take.  This way I can choose my GM, HC, and QB and give excitement to the city of Charlotte to counteract the loss of Cam.

The only thing to counteract the day when Cam leaves....is to provide hope to fans by having a new everything. If Cam leaves and Rivera is still here.....mutiny.  If the new coach has to release Cam...he'll be doomed from the start.

The 2nd best thing to winning is creating hope for the fan base.

Yeah why is that?  You think you're going to get a good coach who wants to come in and take over a 30 plus Newton with a long time documented shoulder injury?

He will just be turning 31 by that time and by all indications that seems to be when QBs start to hit their prime.

If Tepper isn’t bright enough to realize that Cam and this team win in spite of Ron Rivera, then we’re all fuged.

I’d honestly take certain members of the huddle over Rivera at this point.
