If Tepper wanted a significant departure from the norms of Hurney and Rivera then they would've been replaced. If his idea of change is to try to force known commodities into changing how they do their jobs then we're fuged.

What you said might be true for people unwilling to learn and grow. And, like I have said before, sometimes tweaking a system is better than blowing it up. Tepper may not want to "significantly depart" from whatever you think the "norms" of Hurney and Rivera are, just bring out the best of both. At minimum he's being thoughtful and patient about the process. One more year to gain more clarity as to whether or not he really has something to work with is not going to kill anyone.

I'm more concerned about the line than the backfield on d. If we do a ton of contract gymnastics, and move our cap up closer to 30 then we have a shot at clowney. Draft DeX or Wilkins from clemson at 16 trade up in the second and go after sweat or whatever his name is, and we might save our defense. I genuinely believe adding one of the clemson guys on the line, and making Clowney a hometown hero type offer could really make us a threat again. Resign reid because I doubt he gets many offers, and maybe offer haha a 4 year back loaded deal, or the same with Thomas from Seattle.

Well, me too. O-line is paramount to me, I just haven't figured out what we could realistically do in free agency that would have the impact that adding Flowers and Clinton-Dix would.

Houston isn't going to let Clowney go. He's a pipe dream (even if they do let him go).

For the right price I think these would be solid targets, though there are some concerns about HaHa's attitude in the locker room... may be a pipe dream but I want Ziggy Ansah here with Washington coaching him on the DL, guy has the potential still to be a top 5 4-3 end which we desperately need.

No this isn't a laugh about flowers, it's about realistic free agent targets to help our defense.

In my opinion, our number one target in free agency should be Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. We need a young, experienced safety either with or without Eric Reid, and Ha Ha should be affordable and provide good production for years to come.

Trey Flowers isn't the top Edge as far as sacks go, but he gets good marks for his proficiency. He consistently gets pressure and would make a nice addition to Addison on the other side.

Short, Poe, Addison and Flowers should be enough for a decent O-line.

Jackson, Bradberry, Reid, and Clinton-Dix should provide enough playmakers for a good defensive backfield.

With the working material of Obada or Cox, Haynes, Gaulden and LB Carter, we may have the seeds for a pretty good defense if we can land these two younger vets.

If nothing else, it would allow us to feel better about going into the draft, and possibly open up some options. Both should be affordable and may provide some value given their bodies of work thus far because they can get better (in arguably better situations).

Washington gave up a 4th for Clinton-Dix. They'll not willingly let him walk away. On the other side of the coin, they have 10 M less cap space than us.

Trey Flowers won't be too easy either. New England finds ways to hang onto their guys. His market is projected at about 14 M.

I was thinking more like 12, but you could be right.

Yeah, I know Washington wants Clinton-Dix, but they're not going to be able to afford him. Gruden is already talking like they have some hard decisions to make and may not be able to afford Clinton-Dix.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Wouldn't be mad with Ansah.

I kinda feel sorry for people that feel that way, but, then again, it's your choice.

It's not a choice. It's based on eight years of close observation.

We're almost certainly goin into a wasted year and then cleaning house this time next year. We're probably looking at a repeat of Fox's lame duck season.

I very seriously doubt that we'll invest any significant resources into the safety positions with Rivera returning. Those positions just don't matter to Ron.

I do think we'll sign a decent FA DE though.

Going into 2019 with an almost 40 year old safety= Ron’s blueprint for success
