In 4 seasons the Colts will have to either give their Guard a contract close to 90 million dollars when they could be getting virtually identical production from a 5th round pick at a fraction o the cost or watch him go to Jacksonville.

You don't draft guys in the first round for one contract. The Colts are stupid.

You don't get a Nelson or Martin in the 5th round. If you don't have a top o-line you can for get about the playoffs. You said Jacksonville they got their top De in the third round Yannick Ngakoue , Daniel Hunter  third round. Todays NFL you better protect your QB who by the way you have the most money tied up in.

Worked out well.  Because they got a once in 5 years OG, kinda similar to the kid the Colts drafted last year.  And one of the best LT prospects to come out the past decade.

Colts drafted an “OG” from Auburn (Branden Smith) in the 2nd Round that Wally-Pip’ed all their RTs when after they got injured this season. (Smith was a high school OT and played it some at Auburn as well.)

Outside of QB, I have never heard a team claim that they just got their safety for the next 10 years on draft night.  Does that sound normal to you?

You are playing the averages here.  Some 1st rounders will sign a 2nd contract with the team that drafted them.  A few 2nd rounders may, less 3rd rounders, etc...

Again, outside of QB, I can't imagine any NFL GM is going to expect to get 10 years out of a draft pick.

Let's use our last handful of picks as an example.  How many players drafted between 2008 and 2014 have signed a 2nd contract with us?

2008:  1

2009:  Zero.  (technically signed Capt. to his 3rd contract, but we didn't give him a 2nd)

2010:  Zero.

2011:  1.

2012:  1.

2013:  1

2014:  1

Since 2008, we have averaged less than 1 player sign a second contract with us.  That's how this thing works.

lol I'm sincerely not even sure if you're being sure at this point.

Yes, it sounds normal to me, because "he's a 10 year sfarter for us" and "this is a guy who will come in and lead our franchise for the next decade" is the preferred cliche of teams everywhere on draft night.

you don't spend a 1st rounder on a 1 contract player,  like lol, I can't believe were even having this discussion.

1st - DL

2nd - Center/OT

3rd - OT/OG

3rd - Another large human

Always good news when more top talent declares, especially in a weak QB and honestly weak "big name" class.

Since when do we have 2 3rd round picks?

this is a nice collection of clichés, fitting of somebody whose username is "factor back," but the panthers, like so many other teams, already have had nelsons and martins on their roster and didnt have to burn anything precious to get it.

hey, I bet we have to run the ball and stop the run too, ey bud?

Yeah already stated, but all but guaranteed we'll get an extra 3rd for Norwell's contract being so large...

Carolina Panthers

Projected compensatory picks: Round 3; Round 6.
Key free-agent losses: OG Andrew Norwell(Jaguars), DT Star Lotulelei (Bills), TE Ed Dickson (Seahawks).
Key free-agent additions: DT Dontari Poe (Falcons).
The skinny: Norwell's big payday from Jacksonville meant the Panthers would have to find a new starting guard, but it also means that they'll be picking up a third-round comp pick. Poe and Lotulelei should cancel each other out. The loss of Dickson should net the Panthers a sixth-rounder.

We never had a Nelson or Martin at Guard not even close , tell me YOU know enough to see that. If we don't put a top 10 line in front of Cam you can draft the next steel curtain and we still want make the playoffs. A top o-line will help more for the defense than vice versa.

Nelson and Martins only come around evey 6-7 years.  Those are the most hyped interior OL in awhile.

50% of the probowl OG's are actually 3rd rounders.  And other NFL playoff teams such as the Eagles, Patriots, and Chargers LG is a 3rd rounder.  The Bears all everything Center they drafted 2 years ago was drafted in the bottom of the 2nd (the spot of where if we package both 3rds we land), Ryan Kalil- botton of the 2nd, Trai Turner 3rd, Moton- bottom of the 2nd

While only 16% of the top DEs in the probowl, came from outside the 1st
