What have Rivera and Hurney been up to?

Many years ago, we had a woodpecker that kept coming back.  We tried different 'humane' remedies but nothing seemed to work. The bird was really doing a number on the tree.  So, one morning when the woodpecker was at it again, my father went up stairs to the master bedroom.  He grabbed his .22 rifle, opened the window and with one pull of the trigger the woodpecker problem was no more.

Of course, the story is only anecdotal.

so your dad killed a woodpecker because it was pecking a tree?   wow.

nah, i just live in the mtns and never heard of anyone killing a woodpecker for pecking a tree.  trees are ubiquitous here.  i have seen a cabin destroyed by woodpeckers hunting carpenter bee larvae.

Didn't know we had PETA on here...

you realize why woodie was doing it right?  your tree had health issues your dad chose to ignore and instead killed the creature that was letting you know.

Yep it's pretty rough around here, with whining about coach/GM and then the Cam situation... I'm confident Cam will heal up before week 1 and Rivera can turn things around with the defense. Never been a big Hurney fan but if he has anothe draft like last year there is a ton to be excited about next year.

It’s not really the draft that scares me with hurney. It’s managing our current players and overpaying for their services

My mother grew up on a farm.  My father grew up in the mountains of Virginia.  Both learned hard living early and then went to school, military and graduate school.  In my family, animals always had their place in this world.  If a spider was outside, it had a right to be there.  You let it be.  If it was inside, it was dead.  If a dog bit a human... dead.  Bull chased my mother once.  Best steak she ever had.

The wife's family grew up in New York.  White collar.  Dogs on laps and in beds.  Very different mentality.  A fine one, for some, if you share it.

Thing is, we didn't have a lot of money, at that time in my life.  My parents were still finishing their masters.  So the cost of that bullet, to solve that problem, was the cheapest and most effective rout.  This is in the days before the internet when it cost money to have an expert come out and look at a problem.  Before we were all experts on every issue because the worlds collective knowledge was at our finger tips.

Back then, you saw a problem, you did your best to fix it insofar as you knew how.  You asked a buddy or figured it out yourself.  Big things, you went to the library and used the Dewey Decimal System.  A woodpecker and a 10 cent round was not library worthy. My dad didn't 'choose to ignore', he didn't know.

Just a little background for that pedestal.

If someone can figure out a way I can permanently ban chuck without shutting down all registrations let me know.

Let me wield the hammer and I'll play chuck-a-mole for you.

Outside of constant IP bans which can be avoided, there isn't much else unfortunately outside of manual approval of new users. If he were on the same LAN as the server you could try the MAC address. With the IP ban, if he's not using a proxy you can ban the subnet at risk of banning other users on that range as well. Otherwise, at least with my experience on other forums the best bet was to get the individual IP and the associated email address(es) with each new account.

Can also take a look at his provider and see if they have anything in their ToS that his behaviour might be in violation of. If he's had any really, really bad blow ups that can be used as evidence. It might not lead to anything, but it could dissuade him further.

Sauce: I work in ITSEC for the govt and spend way too much time on interwebz communities when not buried under traffic logs and permissions requests.
