What have Rivera and Hurney been up to?

First of all everyone here is assuming that the GM does everything and doesn't have staff in place. What you all think the GM of a team doesn't get input from his coaches and scouting staff who all have a say in the big board. Coaches have no impact on which free agents are brought in and signed.... you figure this happens in a vacuum and no factors are brought into play...

come on now, let's be realistic. Butker was never going to get the job over Gano with Rivera here. Even if Gettleman was still the GM that poo wouldn't have happened. Star was offered a contract by the Panthers, he got more from the Panthers previous gm in waiting up in Buffalo.

Additionally the Star contract is 33m over 3 years and if cut after year 3 still has 5m dead cap attached to it. Poe contract is basically 2 years 18m dollars with 3m dead. You know since most of the money was in 2018 season with a little in 2019.

Fill you in on another secret...it's why Rivera hasn't been successful with Hurney at the helm.

He needs a GM that tells him to F off, we drafted a kicker to take over for Gano because with Cam on his 2nd contract, and KK and Trai getting paid we have to look for savings.

Did you look at his contract in BUF?  Or just spout that off?

Yeah, and...You're presupposing a lot. Star wanted out of here and he got out of here, and he'll likely be in Buffalo for the better part of the next decade (unless he sucks).

If I'm the guy who previously saddled us with a starting duo of Sione Fua and Terrell McClain, I'd probably at least consider it.

Oh man, why remind us of that illustrious duo, some things are better left forgotten

I'm not advocating for Star.  Another poster brought up the fact that the pass rush was bad before Hurney took over, when in fact we had the 2nd and 3rd most sacks in the NFL in 16 and 17.  He pointed to Star leaving as to why the pass rush is bad, and I pointed out that we could have kept him over Poe with just the flick of a wand.  Namely not taking on Torreys overpaid ass, not signing Poe, and not wasting money and games on Gano.

All I was saying is that we could have afforded him, but we (stupid GM) chose to go in different directions.

I would have preferred to keep Norwell instead, but that's neither here nor there.

Yeah. We looked reeeeaal solid against the Falcons.

The defense gave up in the second half after our offense kept trying to hand the game over to Atlanta. Adams' blunder didn't help. The defense was decent in the first half, but overall it was a bad game.

We did look better when Rivera took over the playcalling. The mnf game reminded me of 2015.

They gave up 14 points in the 3rd quarter.  You know, that quarter that comes after you get to rest and make halftime adjustments.

Fading in the second half is a staple of a Rivera coached team regardless of who the DC is.

Did the defense improve after Rivera took over?
