NOTES:

- A few teams were said to be interested in Oklahoma Head Coach Lincoln Riley, but Riley just signed an extension so it's unlikely he's going anywhere.

- Iowa State Head Coach Matt Campbell was the subject of similar rumors, but when the Jets reached out to him about an interview, he declined.

- Retired Cardinals Head Coach Bruce Arians had previously said he was only interested in the Browns job, but has since said he could be interested in the Buccaneers job also because he knows GM Jason Licht.

- Another former coach looking to catch on with a new team: previous Bills and Jets head coach Rex Ryan is lobbying to be interviewed for the Dolphins job. Ryan wants another shot at taking down Bill Belichick (because it went so well the other times) and the Dolphins are the only AFC East rival he hasn't coached yet.

- Although several head coaching openings exist (25% of the league is searching right now) only one team fired its GM this offseason.  That'd be the Raiders, and the position is already filled. If you wanted to look for a new GM right now, you'd have literally no competition.

- The Jets and Bucs have both been rumored to be interested in Michigan Coach Jim Harbaugh. The Jets denied any such interest before firing Todd Bowles.

- Jim's brother John has been the subject of "coach trade" rumors involving the Dolphins and the Broncos.

- Broncos head honcho John Elway is also said to be interested in possibly bringing back his old coach and friend Mike Shanahan.  Shanahan won a Super Bowl with the Broncos and Elway then didn't win much else after Elway retired.

- How thorough(ly desperate) are the Browns?  They're going so far as to interview Vikes OC Kevin Stefanski, a guy who held that title for a total of 2 games before the Vikings were eliminated from playoff contention.

- The Bengals have been rumored to be interested in giving former OC Hue Jackson a shot at being their Head Coach (because they're the Bengals).  There's also a rumor that they might pursue trading for Vikes Coach Mike Zimmer (at least that would make some sense).

- Meanwhile, the Cardinals might be looking at former Bengals Coach Marvin Lewis (because they're the Cardinals).

- Meanwhile over in Green Bay, the Packers have been said to be interested in making a run at Northwestern Head Coach Pat Fitzgerald.  The interest doesn't appear to be mutual. A few players (including Aaron Rodgers) have stumped for interim coach Joe Philbin, but I've yet to see a report that the Packers will consider him.

- Notably absent from the circuit: Chiefs Special Team Coach Dave Toub, Chargers OC Ken Whisenhunt, Eagles DC Jim Schwartz, fired Vikings OC John DeFilippo, former Panthers DC Jack Del Rio and former Panthers DC/Cardinals Head Coach Steve Wilks from any assistant options. Granted, although a few openings exist, those haven't really gotten rolling yet and won't until the head coaching spots are filled.

Florio made note of the fact that there are loads of former head coaches out there that nobody's calling, at least so far.

Plenty of former NFL coaches aren't drawing interest yet

Among the familiar names, there's Jeff Fisher, Rob Chudzinski, Gus Bradley, Ken Whisenhunt, Leslie Frazier, Todd Haley, Mike McCoy, our old Buddy John Fox and OC Norv Turner.

(though if I recall correctly, Turner said his wife threatened him with bodily harm if he ever took another head coaching job)

If I'm the Brown's ownership, I go all in on Bruce Arians.

Makes too much sense.

Bring him in to coach the team. Keep Kitchens as OC (what he was for Arians in AZ), build continuity for Baker and have him waiting in the wings for when BA steps down. Bring in newly fired Todd Bowles to coach the defense, where he was great.

Might be worth throwing in some assistant news here since there are rumors that the Panthers might be looking at some point.

Assistant coaches that have recently found themselves looking for work...

Falcons OC Steve Sarkisian

Falcons DC Marquand Manuel

Falcons ST Coach Keith Armstrong (considered to be one of the best in the business)

Lions OC Jim Bob Cooter

Cardinals OC Byron Leftwich

Cardinals DC Al Holcomb (former Panthers LB coach)

Every time I see or hear the name "Jim Bob Cooter" I can't help but wonder if that name is the longest running troll job in the history of pro sports. I just can't wrap my mind around the possibility of that actually being a real name. That's straight out of The Onion.

He's also the one who got drunk, climbed through a window and wound up in bed with a lady he didn't know.

(she was reported to be slightly upset over the matter)

That probably trumps former Detroit DL Coach Joe Cullen's naked trip to a Wendy's drive-thru.

The Lions have employed some really interesting assistants :fear:

Well, naturally. That sounds exactly like something that a Jim Bob Cooter would do.
