Thomas Davis is begging us to re sign him even at a cheaper price and reduced playing time

Hahaha I’m far from a blind homer of this team. That’s hilarious. They have just made a poor effort replacing him

No, Ron just refuses to address it because he thinks TD will play forever.  Which he will if he's allowed to hang around.

Oh, so like Matt Kalil. The same argument was often repeated ad-nauseum then. We just need to see the potential! Instead of going after a known quantity, like Andrew Whitworth, the Panthers need to invest (gamble) in potential. Boy, that didn't work out.

The belief was that Kalil was healed and would return to his rookie form. That belief was completely unfounded.

Not sure how you think that makes it less of a mistake to resign a 35 year old Thomas Davis. If anything, it points to why we shouldn't.

He was terrible, even before he was injured. Though that's beside the point. Your argument was repeated often to the point it was the only argument as to why Kalil should be signed, his "potential", and also why Whitworth shouldn't be given a look (his lack of potential, and his obvious decline from age). The Rams knew talent when they saw it, plain as day, no need to forecast.

Look I KNOW we have to get younger but he definitely still plays at a high level and will be cheap.

If he wants any more than vet minimum, that's not "cheap".  That's costing money we can spend to get younger players.  And since our team salary cap over the last year and a half has been totaly Hurney'ed, we NEED that money for younger players.

He’s a strong side defensive end and that is it.

We gave up the 7th most yards to tight ends this year and the 3rd most touchdowns because he is worse than TD in coverage. Shaq is the reason TD is not at SLB.

TD is still strong enough to line up across from the tight end but plays the weakside because Shaq can’t play it (which is what he was drafted for).

I'll take your word on it, but I do remember Shaq playing pretty good earlier in the year when he was playing TD's position... I think anyway. I definitely remember him playing great against Dallas. My memory is hazy on the rest.

Why is everyone overlooking that Thomas Davis had good stats, as well as a good PFF rating? I don't put much stock into PFF myself, but it's something. I keep seeing those say they're seeing Davis differently, it reminds me of the exaggerations of Devin Funchess's development, so often repeated.

Signing players is "forecasting". Hell, it's practically trying to be Miss Cleo.

He’s damn good in run support, the best we have at any position outside of Luke. That’s why many people thought he could lose some weight and play strong safety, that way he doesn’t have to run with the tight end he can just kind of mirror the tight end.

His coverage skills just aren’t all there.

That's a twist you can make, I guess. Though I'm pretty sure if you asked the Rams, they would have said they knew what they had with Whitworth, and it's why they signed him.

So again I’ll ask...are you willing to part with a first second or third round draft pick on a linebacker with as many holes as we have on the lines? A 5th round linebacker is not going to play better than TD on a one year deal.

Look at the list up upcoming linebacker free agents...do you see any on the list that would play better and be a better leader than TD for three million?

It's not a "twist". That's the whole job. It's also why Davis having "good stats" doesn't mean sh-t.

You don't sign a guy because he used to be good. You sign a guy because you believe he's going to be good.

The odds against Davis being good next year are pretty big.

Okay sure, whatever semantics you need to go by. So who's the Matt Kalil of linebackers you want to replace Davis with this year?

TD shouldn’t be back. Nor should Olsen. TD hurt the team by missing 4 games due to PEDs and Olsen held them back by playing on a foot hanging by a thread, when Ian Thomas looked great in his absence. For the good of the team, they need to move on and allow the young guys to continue to develop.
