Thomas Davis is begging us to re sign him even at a cheaper price and reduced playing time

TD brings a lot to the table as long as the price is right. Shaq isn't worth 10m. TD on a 1 yr 3-4 mil plus incentives is fair as long as he is playing a diminished role and not 100% starter time.

I dont think you can replace his ability, experience, leadership, and passion, even at 35, with a younger body for that salary.

Veteran minimum, nothing more.

What do people think, would he sign for that?

exactly! Everyone is talking about how he better than X or Y, ..but the REAL question is what will he play here for? if he wants anything more than 1.1 million for a year, he can sit down and have a serious life change talk with his wife.

yeah i see signing him cheap as a no brainer.  There are worse players on this roster making more

resign at vet min. As soon as 2019 starts for the NFL. should send a strong message to the rest of the team. The Panthers need teammates that want to be on the team.

He is still a productive player.  I think you sign him but make sure it’s not in place of someone who can take over the spot (doesn’t have to be thompson).  I think his contract will be very reasonable and if he has a year like this one we will benefit.

This somewhat bothers me. We all know what a badass Luke is, but I just cant help but feel Luke has been and continues, to hold back/not take charge out of respect for TD. We say Luke is the leader of that back 7, but I believe Luke refuses to accept that role as long as his good friend ( and lets be honest, he looks at TD like  god) is back there.

TD retiring would be the best thing to happen to 59 in my opinion. Its time Luke became his own man. He is of course fully capable, but is humble to TD that came before him. But as much camaraderie and support TD brings, its also been holding Luke back from truly taking over and running that defense.

TD strikes me as one of the few players who could successfully make the transition from playing to coaching. With his fire and passion and integrity I think he’d make a hell of a good LB coach. And from there work his way up to DC and then HC. I think it’s be phenomenal if he could do all that here.

Lmao at folks thinking signing TD over Shaq is in the team's best interests long term

Lmao thinking Shaq is a the team's best long option.

Cheap TD reup and we can find a new cheaper Shaq.  Nothing against him, he just hasn't shown elite level of play.

Oooooor, we can sign TD on the cheap, retain Shaq, and go into next season with arguably the best LB corps in the league.

TD can clearly play at a high level still, as he tied Shaq for total tackles and had 5 more pass deflections despite Shaq having 2 extra games (TD played in 12 to Shaq's 14 while starting all 12 to Shaq starting 11). However, Shaq also had 3.5 sacks and a fumble to TD's 0 for both (tho TD did have 2 recoveries). Shaq also had more tackles for losses and more QB pressures than TD. They are both super solid players with TD on the back 9 of his career while Shaq is on the front. I don't understand this mentality that folks have that we can't have both, let alone that Shaq is a bust somehow.
