Do You Think We Can Patch Up Both Oline and Dline Before 2019 Starts?

This free agent class for oline looks god aweful.  And not that much top shelf talent in the draft either.

Good year to rebuild your dline but not oline.  Especially when youre picking 16th and may be limited to bpa

True

Thing is

A. We have a guy who has proven he can play LT well in Moton.

B. We can resign Williams relatively cheap coming off the injury and put back at RT

C. You can get good interior guys in the 3rd.  50% of this years probowl OGs were from the 3rd round.  Playoff teams such as the Patriots, Chargers, Eagles have their starting LGs as former 3rd rounders.  Saints Larry Warford is a former 3rd rounder.  Bears all world center is bottom of 2nd round, Ryan Kalil was bottom of the 2nd round.

We can take advantage of this strong DL class in rds 1-2 and secure the trenches on D.  Then get a solid interior OL or 2 in the 3rd

Then this whole thing is patched up

Short version of what I hope happens:

Get Williams healthy

Sign Williams

Let Moton play LT

Sign a quality free agent DE

Draft a DT in the second

Draft a Center or guard in the third

That leaves the first round pick to go BPA at a variety of positions.

I really don't want to have to chase need with the first pick.  You never know who might fall, like with Derwin James last year.

Long Version:

You are never going to have all-pros at every positions, or 1st round picks, or high dollar players, but I do think both lines could be better.

Best case scenario for O-line:

Tackles: Williams is healthy and he and Moton can play the tackle spots.

Guard:  Turner and one of either cheap vet/guy already on the roster (Van Roten, Mahon), draft pick

Center: assuming Kalil is gone, Larsen, cheap vet, or draft pick

Line would look something like:

LT -  Moton

LG - Van Roten, draft pick, cheap vet, guy already on the roster like Mahon

C - Larsen, Draft Pick, cheap vet

RG - Turner

RT- Williams

Chances are anyone you pick in the 4th round or later isn't going to be any better than what you already have on your roster and I would be a little surprised if we spend 2 picks in the first 3 rounds on center and guard.  My guess is we draft one of the 2 and make do with what we have for other spot or sign a cheap FA.

Best Case scenario for D-line:

DEs:  Am not convinced at 16 that anyone pick will be automatic help for us.  DEs seem to take awhile to develop so I really think there is a good chance we try to sign a bigger name free agent.

DT: Very good class to draft DTs and I'm not as down on Short as others.  I think he still has some good football left.  Maybe he went from a top-3 DT to top 15 and who knows what happens if we improve the other spots on the line.

D-line would look something like this

DE:  Free agent

DT:  Short

DT:  Higher draft pick

DE: Addison
