Do You Think We Can Patch Up Both Oline and Dline Before 2019 Starts?

The OL is in a lot better shape than the DL if we plan on moving Moton to LT and re-signing Williams at RT. Larsen is at least equal to Kalil at this point. I'd like to see competition for Van Roten at LG and a developmental center added.

The DL needs a massive overhaul. All of our contributors are aging rapidly. We have four picks in the first three rounds. I'd like to see two of them spent on the DL and we probably need to hit up free agency too.

Everything is draft and FA dependent and there is no real way to know for sure right now.

Looking at the Colts and Cowboys though, I’d say a solid two years of smart decisions should easily be doable.

The biggest issue is how much cap we already have towards guys like Matt and KK vs. their production, as well as busts we’ve had. Otherwise I’d say we’d getting pretty close fixing it up this year.

The Dline is the major issue at this point as I think Moton can go to LT and at that point LG is the only huge hole.

Persobally, I’d really like to see some worthwhile FA brought in for either side of the line.

Our old pal Gettleman left this team in shambles with his free agency signings and first round draft picks.

The biggest negative impact I see from Gettleman is the DL. It wasn't that he neglected it, it's that he swung early and often and whiffed. Ealy 2nd rounder - bust. Hall 3rd rounder - bust. Butler 1st rounder - bust. Short and Star were good picks, but Short turned into a big money extension bust. In hindsight, Star should've been re-signed instead but I definitely understand why we opted for Short at the time. All those resources invested in the DL, yet our DL is old and bad and other position groups are suffering from the lack of investment of resources due to the poor investments in the DL.

True. I just wonder how he would have addressed it had he been allowed to finish out the roster to this point.  He sure wasn't afraid to cut bait with his picks if they weren't working out.

I give him credit for the mid round picks. He crushed those.

I just feel like coming away with Thompson, Butler, and Benjamin the first round really set this team back.

All of those guys were drafted at the tail end of the first round by the way.

That’s a valid point and I factored that in and I know that we aren’t the Patriots but they manage to come away with talent at the end of the first round Michel, Hightower, Chandler Jones, Solder, McCourty, etc.

If you are going to be the best I feel like you need to see how you stack up to the best. I’m also not a Hurney guy and he can go elsewhere for all I care.

I don’t think either were/are elite at their job which is what we need.

What stings the most is that both Shaq and Butler were luxury picks that played position of strength at the time. We ignored glaring needs to make picks for the future and it just didn't work out.

It seems that Gettleman overlooked work ethic and desire in a lot of his picks. KB, Funchess, Butler, Short after getting paid, Turner sfter getting paid... all of those guys flashed the ability to play at a high level, they just didn't seem to have the desire to do so consistently.

Oline isn't the abomination some think only if Williams comes back on a prove it deal and is atleast average.  We currently have 2 spots filled and a below average guy pencilled in. Issue really is who exactly plays LT. Williams back helps with RT and using Moton at either G or LT. Kalil retiring is gonna hurt but Larson is starting material ( below average but not replacement level).

The DL is fugged. Poe was not the same guy he was in KC or ATL. Short reverted to the collegiate hot cold guy that's effort was questionable. Addison is a specialist, Pep is out of gas to be more than a depth handful of plays guy, and lots of jag depth guys otherwise. For the team to take off, they need the monsters Inc performance back from the DL. It really covers the secondary and let's the LB corp produce like a group of HOF.

the offense this year was less of the problem compared to the defense. The defense was 2 tiers down from the SB run and a sold tier below the playoff teams of the past. Most of the issues we're all up front. Even last year wills correctly saw only was to save a mediocre backend was with blitzing. If he could get 2 solid pass rushers plus a motivated short we would be ok.

And what’s odd is it really was just with those higher up picks.

I’m damn impressed with Williams’ work ethic, literally sacrificing himself in a contract year.
