Montez Sweat 6'6 245 DE/OLB

Versatility is what we need on this defense. Sweat is a athletic freak who can play as a DE, but also has the ability to play as a OLB in a 3-4 scheme. He has the frame and weight that allows him to be a versatile defender and we can move him all over the field. I think his potential is something special and he could develop into a star with the right coaching. Imagine Sweat learning under Peppers for a year and grasping his knowledge on how to rush the passer. Peppers also like Sweat has the freakish frame at 6'7 290.

Why not draft the next Julius Peppers of the franchise?

I'm a Mississippi State season ticket holder and he is a unique talent. He has the ability to add 20 pounds without losing his speed. He was first team All American in several listing and registered double digit sacks in both of his years there. And this is against SEC linemen who will play in the pros. If we would have lost yesterday, he would not be an option. At 16 he is.

Do you think he will be a star on the next level?

If he continues to work hard, he could be. Coach Baker taught Chris Jones at Kansas City and said Sweat and Simmons are going to be very good. Baker should know because he was a longtime NFL D Line coach.

He's a little light, but at #16 you aren't getting the 6'6 270 pounders with elite athleticism. I'll take ideal athleticism over ideal size all day everyday. A skinny guy might be able to to get bigger but a slow guy will never become explosive.

He's 245 and 6'6 with a frame to easily add weight.

Derek Barnett who everyone drooled over was only 7-10 pounds heavier coming out.

Sweat plays hands in the dirt amd holds well in the run game

Exactly!

This is a potential pick. His frame and athleticism is something you can't teach. Add 20 pounds of muscle and proper coaching this dude can be a problem on the next level. His ability to play OLB shows you he has crazy athletic type of ability for a DE. I want him learning under Peppers for a year.

To be honest, Mississippi State has 4 guys that will go in the first 3 rounds and all at a position of need.  Simmons is the next Chris Jones at DT, Sweat is an athletic freak at DE, Jenkins is one of the top 3 Centers in the draft and Abrams is a hammer at SS.  I want the best we can get in the draft but would be happy if we drafted any of these guys.
