Not sure why you put Thompson on this list. If TD is gone he’s going to move into TD’s spot.

Addison stays too.

Get rid of Smith, Searcy, Poe and Munnerlyn.

I agree with this.  Serious question however, is the 2.7 million hit for Poe that bad?  I think it was a bad experiment so far but I question whether or not we can replace.  Might have to stick with him.  If we can upgrade then cut so be it.

Thompson and Smith look gone to me.
Marty will find the money because he mortgages the future.  Remember the cap hell he put us in to try to save his ass because he thought Otah, Brown, and overpaying players were going to bring jewelry to his finger?

Here is what I do---You have to cut Thompson, Smith, Munnerlyn, Searcy, Cockrell, and Poe.  We can drop a notch with Carter for Thompson, and not get burned too often.  Munnerlyn?  The other team should pay his game check.  Searcy and Cockrell will be nothing but depth, and we do not need to spend $5m on depth there.  Poe?  Hard to replace for $2.7m, but we need to try.  What a stupid contract.

I am not sure I want to re-sign Reid at market value.  Let him play free agency.  I do not see a lot of takers--maybe I am wrong.  He needs to play SS, but he is injury prone...Catch 22?

That creates an addition $24m.  Addison?  You don't touch him.

As for the June 1 cuts?  Cut Kalil and give Olsen one more season.  Use the savings to sign rookies.

Not sure I would trust Hurney with much more than 26m...

Let's hope that JR was behind that spending spree he went on in 2011.  He knows he is being watched.  I remember watching J R at the "pie chart" presser and thought, "Our owner is a madman."  I think it had a lot to do with Andrew Luck staying in college, Darrin Gantt getting demoted to Winthrop Volleyball, and Morgan Fogerty getting hit on by a 73-year old man with a hog heart.

Marty screwed up when he tried to validate his draft picks by overpaying them on their second contracts.

I remember a story where he flew to Chicago to cry with Jake Delhomme's agent before cutting him--only after paying him twice what any other team would have paid after Tommy John surgery.  The contract was a reward--not compensation for expected future performance.  He rewards players for making him look  good.  He gets emotional. He has no business making financial decisions---here is to hoping a wall street guy will know that.

That has been the talk, but I am not sure that Thompson's play makes that a given.  I dont see him being worth $9m wherever you put him.  I think this contract, the Poe situation, the Matt Kalil situation, and maybe Olsen's situation will tell us all we need to know about the New and Improved Marty Hurney.

Thompson is on there to give you some flexibility if you want.

Let’s say you decide cut Thompson, you’ve just opened up an additional $10M that you might be able to throw at DeMarcus Lawrence.

You’ve created a hole at linebacker but let’s say you decide to trade down late into the first round and pick up a second round pick in the process. You select Devin Bush to replace Thompson and then select Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to replace Mike Adams with the second round pick you got in the trade.

So now you’ve effectively replaced Thompson with three starters.

That’s why he’s on the list, the more money saved the more flexibility provided.

Agreed, I’m in the boat that players should only be extended if they’ve played at an elite level (Trai Turner) and even then, if there is a big gap in between parties then let them play out their contract. We might get Williams for much less than we would have if we would have extended him earlier in the offseason.

Nothing is happening with either DT this year so people can forget that.  Saving 2.7 by cutting Poe...for what?  We're going to find a replacement for that price? Hopefully Marty doesn't touch KK's contract, and both guys get told to prove themselves or get cut in 2020. Then, we'll see some actually cap savings.
