Tepper won't speak

Richardson didn't push for Tepper. The NFL did, and Jerry Richardson didn't seem especially happy about it. Not a shock given that he was the lowest bidder and fit pretty much none of the criteria Richardson had for a successor.

For one, Richardson believed he could get 3 billion. That was probably never going to happen, but it didn't help that Tepper came in with a low offer and absolutely refused to budge from it no matter what anybody else bid.

Richardson also wanted somebody from the region. Tepper definitely isn't that. Prior to owning the Panthers, Tepper had no connections with the Carolinas whatsoever. And he's nothing like a southerner in temperament. He's honestly more like Dave Gettleman or Bill Polian on that front, two guys Richardson didn't like. We also knew from inside reports that Richardson was very unhappy with the process, grumbling that he didn't have to sell the team if he didn't want to.

The only real evidence we have that Richardson pushed for anybody was that his son came out in favor of Ben Navarro. Being that Navarro was the highest bidder and fit Richardson's criteria way better than anyone else did, again that's no shock.

Meanwhile, the league did everything it could to discourage everyone except Tepper, at one point even telling Michael Rubin that if he wasn't prepared to spend 2.5 billion he should just drop out. He did, and the team sold forr 2.2 billion, a figure Tepper had never budged from.

Its a known fact that businessmen who become billionaires always make the right choices every time and are experts across the spectrum... business, sports, the arts, you name it.

Amirite?

I've seen several people make the argument that since he's mega rich, he must know what he's doing.

Dan Snyder, Jerry Jones and Jim Haslam are all mega rich too.

For that matter, so was Jerry Richardson.

I remember, back in the 1980's, liberal/progressive Hollywood used to make movies about these kinds of guys.

They did and somehow the script got flipped and Gordon Gecko became president. We're an effed up society for sure.

Y’all are some serious bitches.  Ever think he is still analyzing everything and has nothing to say yet ?

I am pretty sure that Gettleman always had a presser at the end of the season and I think JR had one too.  It’s not a lot to ask that the powers to be would at least hold a presser to tell the fans what’s going on and how we are going to move forward after this epic collapse that we just sat thru the last 2 months

What's up with the silent treatment? He should at least say something. He was out and about when we were 6-2 and now he's nowhere to be found.

Nothing will ever change with this mediocre franchise.

Your past tense observation that this has been mediocre franchise is spot on (might actually be generous), and with that said, rest assured change is a coming -- big f'g time.

One of the key tenets on Wall Street is to keep your trades secret as long as possible, and Tepper is one of a tiny handful of the very best at it -- hence his $11 billion net worth -- 100% self made.

Fans (you) need to chill and sit back and watch for a few years, re-floating and turning around this sinking ship can't be done in a matter of months, it's going to take some time.

Doubt Mr. Tepper at your own risk.

An $11 billionaire is going to do things his way, either get on board or jump onto some other ship, it really is that simple.

I didn’t like him before he was owner. Jury is still out.  One year doesn’t tell the  tail.

yeah but that was for politics right?   i like his politics and i'm with you on this and i appreciate you being able to separate his politics from how he does as an owner.  gotta admit though its looking a little fishy right now.  i sure as hell hope he has a plan.

I'm interested to read your sources for where Jerry Richardson was on record for what he "wanted"?  As for his son, he and Jerry are estranged so suggesting Mark's friendship with Navarro is somehow an implicit endorsement by Jerry is a gigantic stretch.

Any on the record sources for all these assertions?
