Coaching changes likely on the way.

The DLine used to be the biggest strength of this team. That falls on DG, Rivera and Hurney for the past 2 seasons. Made no effort to lock up Hardy long term before he went insane, waited way too long to replace CJ, and never drafted a legitimate edge rusher

Washington’s first season as DLine coach was 2011

-turned Addison from an undrafted FA to a consistent double digit sack starting DE

-turned Hardy from a 6th round pick into a top 5 pass rusher

-CJ had 3 great seasons until that leg whip against NE that started the beginning of the end of his career

-KK and Star were the best interior combo in the league

-Pep had 11 sacks as a 37

-Jared Allen was absolutely washed in 2015 and had a solid year after the trade

-Kyle Love went from journeyman to outstanding depth

for what he was given Washington did a hell of a job in player development and production

I can't blame us for not signing Hardy long-term. He was franchised in large part because we knew he had some screws loose and we wanted to limit our long-term liability.

Watch Ron fug us again by not staying loyal and not go down with his peeps. Usually Rons loyalty to a fault costs us but now he will actually be mandated to either fire them or leave with them and he'll fire them. He's been good at throwing people under the bus though so it probably won't be hard for him just another funny thing to laugh at.

I'd be more worried if we were looking for coordinators. Norv stays, most Offensive asst. coaches can stay. Rivera is basically DC now and calling plays. Washington can stay as a front seven/d-line coach. Every other defensive asst. coach should be replaced. Asst. coaches mostly will have less leverage anyway and we'll still be a good destination.

Rivera has to make changes at this point or he is going to get fired. Loyalty is his blind spot and has cost the season. Tepper needs to see Rivera can change.

What a horrible split-the-baby decision.

Those always work out GREAT.

Firing Washington would be stupid. Demote him, yes, but dont fire him for doing a job that he should have never been given, thats on Rivera. Washington has proven to be a great developer and DLine coach

KK Short seems to be getting worse every year since he signed his big deal.

Lotulelei also was better when he was younger in a Panther's uni.

I guess you could put Mario Addison and Wes Horton on the positive side of the ledger, but I wouldn't place them anywhere near an elite list of players.

That was the excuse going into this season as well.  Seems they are running out of excuses.

Additionally, I'm betting that Ron in his long career has developed a good long list of close buddies that he can use to replace his close buddies currently on staff.

THIS IS GONNA WORK OUT AWESOME AMIRITE?

    • Man that was awful.  Completely killed my NBA fandom in a way that will never recover. I loved that Hornets team.  The Bobcats were the worst possible replacement.
    • OK, so this is a bit weird.  When I coached at Salisbury High School when I first started teaching, I used to go over to Catawba College to watch film and talk football with their coaches.  They were great. Curtis, Jalon's father, I assume, was a LB at Catawba and hired as LB coach by Bennett When Coastal started their program, they hired Catawba's coach Bennett.  Bennett must have taken Jalen's father with him to Coastal. I am guessing that is about the time Jalon was born and why he was in Conway. So then his father comes back to Salisbury after Jalen is born and takes the head coaching job. Jalen is a good interview.  I love the kid based on this, and I have heard good things from former colleagues of FB.  Salibury (when I was there) was a very rough school.  Gangs, drugs, etc.  To put it in perspective, I was there for 2.5 years and I had four (4) students in my class (at different times) who committed murder during that time. A girl was raped in the gym by a few boys.  One night, after a game (there is a road between the coaches offices in the gym and the rest of the school) the coaches watched film until 1 AM or so.  When we were leaving to walk to our cars parked across that street, we noticed a car sitting in the middle of the road about 100 yards away with its lights off.  The driver took off when we neared the street, so we all hit the ground.  As the car passed, we heard about 6 or 7 gunshots.  The next day, the van behind where we fell to the ground had 2 bullet holes in it, about 5 feet above the ground.  All that to say this:  If the young man on the video endured anything like that, I want him to succeed and I found it interesting that he mentioned playing for the Panthers.  I am not sold on the player as a fit here based on our needs, but I am sold on the person.  Very proud of him for some reason that many may not understand.
    • First off, he's not even eligible for a contract yet.  You have to play three years. And thank goodness! All we saw last year were glimpses.  Yes, those glimpses were enough that I think every fan wants to see him come back next year.  But bottom line is that so far, with only a couple games worth of exceptions, he hasn't yet shown that he's a FRANCHISE QB.  He hasn't shown the consistent ability to elevate the players around him. He could be the guy.  After week two of this year, just saying that much is a massive, massive positive swing.  But let's see him put it together for 17 games.  Let's see him make the people around him BETTER.  Then we can talk about extending him. Let's not lose sight of the fact that thus far in his career, in no season has BY exceeded the rookie stats of MAC JONES. We should  be excited for the possibility, but we certainly haven't seen yet what we need to see to declare we have our guy.
