Im sorry but I can't see the logic in this.   It's been Ron's MO from the jump, it's who he is and his core belief.   He even guotes his mentor John Maden when justifying his approach.  So he has to abandon his core belief to keep his job?   A leopard can't change his stripes.  I fear this is an exercise in futility.

Side question, where does that leave Hurney?

This! Hey Ron, we are gonna keep you on but here is the thing. You can't be you. We are going to tell you what staff to hire and you have to figure out a different approach and make it all work.

I agree. this really makes no sense. You either believe in who Ron is and think you can win with his approach or you don't.

has he really? wilks had to blitz his wangus off because our dline couldn't get pressure

The DLine used to be the biggest strength of this team. That falls on DG, Rivera and Hurney for the past 2 seasons. Made no effort to lock up Hardy long term before he went insane, waited way too long to replace CJ, and never drafted a legitimate edge rusher

Washington’s first season as DLine coach was 2011

-turned Addison from an undrafted FA to a consistent double digit sack starting DE

-turned Hardy from a 6th round pick into a top 5 pass rusher

-CJ had 3 great seasons until that leg whip against NE that started the beginning of the end of his career

-KK and Star were the best interior combo in the league

-Pep had 11 sacks as a 37

-Jared Allen was absolutely washed in 2015 and had a solid year after the trade

-Kyle Love went from journeyman to outstanding depth

for what he was given Washington did a hell of a job in player development and production

This is all true. The guy was a first rate D-line coach and the loss of two defensive coordinators in consecutive years left a vacuum that needed to be filled. Based on his performance to date and the amount of quality veteran players on our defense, Washington looked like the best choice for continuity.

In reality, Washington just was not ready for the promotion and the defensive line desperately needed him working with them. Maybe with another season of experience, he'd make a decent DC, but I think he needs to move back to the d-line both for his career prospects and for the sake of defensive quality.

On getting Wilks back as DC... let's not rush into that. I always felt his defense was a remnant, a shadow of what McDermmot had before him here. I don't think he was as good as the guy before him and his abilities certainly didn't translate over to anything on either side of the ball in Arizona.

While there are some good candidates for DC out there, I think experience at that leadership position is of utmost importance. While I really like what Chase Blackburn has done as ST coordinator, I'd like to see him stay where he is. Now Kevin Greene might be looking for work and while he hasn't had a DC position yet, you've got to look at his CV and think there's something there. Or perhaps Samurai Mike could be persuaded to leave the Alliance of American Football's Memphis Express.
