How's Hurney going to further screw us

Yes and no.  He looks to have nailed this last draft with Donte, Moore, and Ian Thomas looking like studs with Carter, Gaulden, and Smith showing the possibility of being solid contributors and possible starters soon.  His flaw was how thin he kept us at certain positions.  At corner, he left us decimated where literally 1 injury crippled a game.  Same with Safety, the Searcy injury left us completely scrambling and we lucked out getting Reid.

That said, his draft was way better, and for what it's worth, the bulk of this team was put together by Gettleman, and encouraged by Rivera and JR who are both former players who like "the old way".  Tepper is pushing more analytics and that will mean a younger approach.  I expect a different hurney this offseason where paying guys for past performance isn't nearly as big of a thing.

What I'm saying is, regardless of hurney's history, say bye to pep, Matt Kalil, Ryan Kalil already gone, and mike adams.  Funchess is gone.  Shaq thompson is gone (that alone gets us 9 mil back).  Theres a good chance Graham gano is gone too.  This team will look and feel different next year and i believe that hurney will be a different GM this offseason.

He was likely never going to be fired. He's well liked by Tepper and the two constantly communicate. Hurney is likely the reason that Rivera is safe as well. 

Tepper is going to play this slow and give them time to rebuild with youth in an attempt to make a consistent winning team. 

 

Now if Rivera doesn't like this youth movement then he'll be gone but Hurney will stay. All the signs point to Hurney being safer then Rivera because of the relationship with Tepper. The Rooney's gave Hurney a glowing recommendation and word is Tepper likes Hurney as the gm.
