Your premise is 100% true as it relates to Jerry Richardson, basically his entire net-worth was wrapped up in the football team (this is also true for the other Jerry...Jones that is).

This football team is a hobby for David Tepper, it really is that simple.  The team could go bankrupt and it would have absolutely no effect on Tepper whatsoever, change nothing for him.  Ditto the potential returns, a couple hundred million in profits doesn't mean jacksh*t to him.  For Tepper this team is analogous Rick Hendrick's huge collection of classic cars, simply a hobby, nothing more.
