Tepper driven staff changes report from talking heads

I would have liked  for Hurney to be gone at least. However, I do believe the team needs to have a stronger coaching staff like when it was Sean as  DC, Wilks as DB coach, and Washington as DL. The coaching talent got diluted as guys were hired elsewhere or promoted from within.

However, I believe with Tepper we will be more of what have you done for me lately- production based team than a family atmosphere in years past. There are several players that need to be let go or walk in FA.

The Rivera talk shouldn't overlook some of the players that played like garbage this season.

Knee-jerk reactions don't work in pro football. I like Tepper's analytical approach and what I'll coin as big-picture clarity to the organization and the game.

No Kleenex, weeping, or gnashing of teeth here, just thoughtfulness and coolness, like the Panthers owner.

As much as everyone likes to complain I will say I am happy with Norv, the only issue was D and we did start 6-2 before our qbs arm fell off. People also forget that we did lose coordinators back to back years so if Ron calls D next year and upgrades assistants....such as getting Wilks back as a secondary/assistant head coach role, have Washington back on the line.....I would be fine with giving him one more year. We didn’t see a lot of Norvs playbook being that we couldn’t throw deep, and it will help DJs development with Norv one more year.

I see this as a power move . Tepper is telling Ron -look this is the way your staff should be put together- if Ron balks he’s gone. Simple as that . Win win really. Tepper is pushing Ron to the very brink and we will see who blinks first . We all know how stubborn Ron is...will he allow tepper to call the shots or will he walk ?

Ron would drive the Ron Bus over the coaching bodies of any and all of his buddies and not even think twice if it means saving himself.  Never have a doubt about that.

I hope you’re right . Because that’s exactly what needs to happen . No more buddies in over their heads .

This actually makes a lot of sense. If you think back to Teppers introductory press conference, he made reference to fully supporting Rivera and was glad to see a change was made on the offensive side with the firing of Shula. I think Tepper knows Rivera is a bit stubborn and too loyal to those close to him, which is why Tepper would out his foot down and try to shape the coaching staff in a way that surrounds Rivera and the players to push them to take the next step.

Someone mentioned in another thread about Mike Tomlin how the Steelers have surrounded him with excellent coaching. I can see Tepper trying to do that here.

I like Rivera's defensive mindset.  Get better people under him and we can turn it around.  He's proven to me to be a competent head coach and there aren't a lot of them looking for jobs.

I thought this way too but a 7 or 8 game losing streak to blow the season changed my mind. That’s unacceptable after a 6-2 start.

The idea that Tepper stepped in after we lost a few games (were still in the playoff race) and told Ron to can Hoke and that other guy doesn't make any sense IMO. Maybe he told him to fix this slide and that was Ron's correction but I'd be concerned if Tepper was micromanaging defensive assistants when the problems are prettyclear.

This seems more like a slap on the wrist and a Stern "okay you get one more try" type thing. Screw that.

The idea of consistency and how the Steelers don't fire coaches keeps being brought up but surely it matters that you (or your appointed subordinate) wasn't the one who hired that coach in the first place.

It also helps that the Steelers are usually consistent winners.

Staying patient with mediocrity is another story.
