Rashaan Gaulden and the future at Safety

 I don’t think it’s a blame thing. Gaulden was overdrafted.

The reason it irritates people is because our safeties have been weak for a long time. The worry is that having spent a 3rd on Gaulden the FO will consider the position addressed even though it’s still a problem. I’d be very happy to see us draft Deionte Thompson who is likely to fall to our position but in reality I don’t see MH doing it because RG was drafted last year.

  It’s a bummer, but it’s also unfair to cut bait with him completely. His presence can be used as an argument by MH not to get a stud in the draft or FA. We’re stuck in a halfway house at safety. Now when you add all the other roster holes and our historical reluctance to put value in the position, it’s not gonna surprise me if we ignore it again.

I know we are playing backups but we should all pull for the guy. He is a rookie and can develop into a starter or quality depth. Anything to get Colin Jones off the roster

Colin Jones actually contributes on special teams. Gaulden hasn't even done that.

Gaulden is playing well but I don't think you start him if you're going to resign reid.

Reid and Gaulden in the secondary together is a similar problem as this year.

I will never root against our players. I hope he ends up being a stud, but there was writing on the wall when we drafted him about what he could be and it doesn't look good. My expectations are so extremely low that if he's even in the league after his rookie deal is over I will be surprised.
