Devin Funchess is NFL's Week 16 Community MVP

Going up against TOUGH competition with it being the last weekend before Christmas, Devin Funchess organized what turned out to be an award winning community event. An event I had the pleasure of being part of as the graphic/web designer. I also promoted the event in various places online including here in the forums. I told Devin directly that he wasn't much of a fan favorite in the Carolina Huddle message boards and his reaction was amazing. "Give them 100 free tickets" he said. "I don't want a down season to weaken the impact of this event. I'll cover the money for them, but don't mention that in the offer, just tell them FREE." I was like WOW.

Let me just tell you guys first hand, and I've been around a number of players (I worked for multiple marketing companies that do player events) and Devin is definitely in my top 2 or 3 as far as attitude goes. But anyway, on to his award:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Devin Funchess has been named Week 16 NFLPA Community MVP for holding a weekend of community events, including a charity cooking competition, a student essay contest on kindness and two toy drives.

“I want to thank the NFLPA for honoring me as this week’s Community MVP,” Funchess said. “It is a privilege to help bring joy to others, especially during the holiday season.”

The Panthers wide receiver channeled his love for cooking into a charitable event on Dec. 21 that positively impacted many within the Charlotte community. In partnering with The National Youth Foundation, “Cooking With Funchess” benefitted the lives of children through creative educational programming.

The friendly competition among 20 local chefs gave attendees the opportunity to sample and vote on an array of “pre-game” appetizers, “gameday" main dishes, “sideline” side dishes and “end zone” desserts. Among the food and music entertainment, one area of the venue honored two local heroes from the police department and United States Marine Corps for their acts of service.

I wish him the best in his career going forward. Clearly, for whatever reason, it didn't work out here, but Devin is a good guy. Go to the AFC so I can pull for ya buddy

People forget we was having a decent season before Cam got hurt. Funch was on pace for a 1000 yard 75 reception season. People get on him about his drops but hey...the most drop passes usually come from the top receivers in the game.

Not saying Funch is a top receiver in this league but the way he crucified on this board is like he isn't even an NFL quality receiver. Terrible assessment.

I dont think most think that he isnt an NFL quality reciever or couldn't help this team going forward.  It's just the price tag many cant get behind.  I will say we had no answer for redzone threat when Funch wasnt in the game.
