Dorian Johnson - Guard

So I normally don’t get all amped up over minor roster moves but I’ve been wanting to see Johnson get a shot, especially since the left guard position should be an open competition next year.

Johnson was drafted in the 4th round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Cardinals and only fell outside of the top three rounds because of his liver condition that he’s had since birth (he was cleared).

I’ll note that a lot of offensive lineman have been going to Arizona and floundering because the Cardinals keep trying to force square pegs into round holes. Up until this year the Cardinals had been a ZBS team and just recently switched to a gap scheme.

At Pittsburg all Johnson played in was gap and inside zone (something we do a lot). Johnson isn’t a bad player, in fact HE ONLY ALLOWED TWO SACKS IN HIS THREE YEAR CAREER AT PITTSBURGH.

I hope he gets a shot because his background and experience at Pitt are almost an identical match to what we currently run here in Carolina. I know his Pittsburgh teammate Bisnowaty didn’t work out but I think Johnson has a much better chance to stick due to the fact that he is a good player that was simply stuck in a bad fit.

All eyes will be on Kyle Allen but Dorian Johnson may deserve a look as well.

That would be a nice find---I also wondered how he might do as a center.
