Again, as an outsider, I'd be surprised [ and happy] if Rivera was retained. 

These things sound to me like the dreaded "vote of confidence" that a HC gets a couple of weeks before he is fired.

Mods should ban anyone who is okay with a coach who has 3 out of 8 winning seasons and a GM who had already been fired by the organization in the past only to be brought back into the loop simply to be a yes man for the previous owner.

Why?

We have seen how this game plays out.  I hang a Panther flag on the outside of my home 365 days per year.  I try to go to at least 3 games per year, with one of them being a pretty expensive away game, and I live 4 hours from CLT.

I have bought jerseys, stickers, sport coats, T's and Polo's, socks, head gear, and bar equipment.  I watch every single Panthers game and have for well over a decade.

I'm on this board far too much, and I think about Panthers football an unhealthy amount.  If I decided not to invest a single penny in the Panthers going forward until changes are made...that's my choice.

IMO Cleveland fans went about this all wrong all these years.  Packing out the stadium, buying overpriced cold hot dogs and terrible beer...for what?  A chance at a gut punch every Sunday?  They should have spoken with their wallets...they didn't, so they continued to get what they got.

I'm not walking away from the Panthers, no where near it, but I'm not going to blame others that do.  I can certainly understand...especially if you have been a fan since day 1.

If Marty is kept, that's just a terrible football move....but that's what the Panthers have been pretty good at during all of Marty's years at the helm.

You're right to be pissed off and to demand better.

 

But for all of the stomping of feet and threatening to quit watching the games 99 out of 100 people who make that threat will be tuning in next August to watch preseason games with the rest of us.

 

Be mad.  Write letters. Make Blog posts.  Just knock off the idle threats.

If the team had announced after 2010 that they were sticking with Jimmy Clausen in the hope that he would improve, would you have cheered that move?

This isn't much different.

it's not really fair to ask people to be enthusiastic about a team that does stupid things.

I said hold those who make a specific claim to their word.

That still ultimately amounts to punishing people for complaining.

I'm not changing teams, but to expect me or anyone to keep up their enthusiasm in the face of something like this just isn't reasonable.

I wouldn't count on that either.

Like I said, the Panthers will still be my favorite team, but I can't necessarily say I'll be as engaged and involved next season if we follow up a historically bad collapse with no changes at all.
