If Shaq is gone 2019, LB in draft or FA

Am I missing something? Besides the Dallas game where the entire defense played very well, the Next 3 games Shaq looked below average in TD’s roll. There were literally threads asking if TD being out was the reason for our defensive meltdowns.

TD came back and played pretty well imo. There is a night and day difference in pass coverage between TD and Shaq. Shaq is a really damn good 2 down line backer but I can’t see paying him almost 10 million for one season when he can’t defend the pass.

A lot will have to come down to new coaching if that happen. As it stands with Rivera’s defense, Shaq doesn’t fill TD’s roll as well as Davis does, even at age 36. It’s incredibly hard to find a hard hitting backer who can also cover at an above average level down the field.

Think the big complaint was his coverage and everyone complained wanting TD back for that reason.

But when going back and looking.  Most of the complaints directed towards him were guys Collin Jones or Captain was covering

Youll be hard pressed to find a upgrade to him in the 4 mil range.

Again remember, dude has looked like a stud in TDs spot when he has been out.  We dont need to pay him the 9.  Thus a extension needs to be done.  Brings the $$$ down.  And still keep a solid player.

No he hasnt, i have no idea what you have been Watching.

Watching the games

Dude has graded out good

Of course he looks like poo where he is at with TD in.  Hardly any fugging LB is going to be able to cover slot WRs.   Just like TD never took off until Beason was gone and slid over.

When he's been in TDs spot he looked dam good.

And the other poster mentioned threads here back while TD was suspended.  Unless im missing something it was the opposite

Honestly, I could be talked into about 5 different way of handling Shaq. Trade, cut, contract extension, play out the final year- all have good points.

I do know this the cap has gone up 40% during the last 5 years, 9 million for someone with Shaq skill set is about right as crazy as it seems. Yes, he's had ups and downs and not lived up to the next coming of TD. Still, he's not easily replaced. Shaq is an LB with experience against slot WRs(right or wrong). He's got what all teams want in a 2018 LB; coverage skills. I heard he's a beast in the weight room too. IMO shaqs problem is mainly mental and somewhat fixable.

Reminder to those thinking he's easily replaceable. A replacement has to want to come here AND agree to a contract. A rookie would take time, Shaq has been here 4 years and gotten a little better each year.

I expect the team to negotiate a long-term contract to get out from under the $9M for Shaq. I would love to bring TD back for a year under a team-friendly deal. Give Carter and Smith another year working with him while they have the opportunity. I'm not mad if we resign Mayo for ST + depth either.
