Report: Rivera’s job in jeopardy

Douglas could conceivably come here, spend a year evaluating Rivera, then decide he wanted Schwartz instead.

I would not be surprised by this scenario regardless of who would be hired as GM (and substitute whoever for Schwartz).

Every time I saw the Lions play under Schwartz, he looked like 6 feet of man standing in 15 feet of water.

And I can't resist.....

Still think

Hurney goes

Rivera stays, coaches for his job next year

You may be right, but I am of the mindset that Hurney did OK in the draft and free agency---RR's crap this season must have been shocking to a newb (Tepper) whereas we all are rather used to it.

RR showed incompetence and I imagine that he is even more so behind the scenes.  He and Hurney are sorta linked---RR endorsed MH for the job and then MH gave RR an extension--pretty sure that is how it went down.

It will be interesting.  I want RR out and we all know what MH will do when his job is on the line.  If Gaulden works out, he had a great draft--

Hurney hit on 3 draft picks.

But you have to do more than just draft hifh picks.

None of his FA pickups have done anything

Poe, Smith, Searcy, CJ Anderson etc

Winning teams find the good combo of core FA.  Again not trying to bring up the Gettleman vs Hurney because he had his flaws as well.  But the reason we magically succeeded under him and havent under Hurney.  The key FA's.  The Kurt Colemans, the Ginns, the Roman Harpers, the Otahs, (he did swing and missed big time with Kalil, but Kalil was the #2 OT in that FA class minus a guy who was up there in age).

Hurney was orginally just brought in last minute by his buddy because Jerry fired his GM stupid late right before camp.  Then that next year the Jerry mess came.  And Hurney wasnt even looked at during that $hit storm.

This first full offseason.  He again hit qith his first round pick.  Looks to hit with 2 other picks as well.  He didnt address the backup QB At All,  The FA pieces have flopped and we are going into a offseason now with not 1....not 2.......not 3.........not 4.......but over a handful of holes.  Which shouldnt happen.

RR his only flaw is his loyalty to his staff.  He shouldve demoted Washington several weeks prior.  We may have won a few more game.

Its not his fault that his star QB has a bum shoulder.  Its not his fault he was left with really nothing at backup QB incase he needed to rest Cam a game or 2

We can point fingers at clock management.  But that goes all around, Cam pointing for the first down on crunch time this week wasting seconds.

The other week Cam was miced up and you could hear him yelling at Turner to get lined up (we had to waste a Timeout)

that's not entirely true.  jarius did pretty well. cam trusts him.  when you're shopping for free agents on the cheap its not all shites and giggles.  he really screwed up last time, but he's been ok this time.  still i think we can do better.  but props to marty for doing a better job this time.

Reid has done fine too. Also, most of his free agents have had injuries.

I'll say the same thing here I've said elsewhere...

Keeping both of them should absolutely not be an option. They're terrible together.

If you're going to keep one of two, take the one that's shown he can win without the other.

That's Rivera.

My preference is still to clean house, but we'll see.

Rivera has made a lot of stupid ass decisions on the field with clock management and yet you have people ready to die for the dude. I don't give a damn who you are, from Bill Belichick to Pete Carroll (and I'm talking about clock management here) to Doug Pederson. You don't win superbowls making stupid ass decisions with the clock. I know a lot of you will tell me you don't win by not running Marshawn Lynch at the 1 yard line in a super bowl too, but there's no guarantee he even gets into the endzone even if that was the case. He's the best coach we've ever had record wise because of our Franchise QB. Cam always gives us a chance to win when he's healthy. When he's 100% it's a pretty damn big chance, so bozos like Rivera can fug up and still win a game.

Yeah if RR stays, Hurney needs to go.

Ron should 100000% not be comfortable next year and coach like his job is on the line constantly. Would much prefer to hit the reset button entirely, but a lot may depend on our coaching options.  If we fire Rivera it better be to take a home run chance, and not to hire another safe defensive coordinator who will be a .500 coach spewing bullshit quotes like "it is what it is" and "miss opportunities"

i followed the team so closely during the first marty era.  i loved the guy.  end of bar drinking a scotch guy.  so loyal.  players loved him.  no trouble working out deals with rosenhaus or anyone.  thought he could recreate finding jake/steven over and over.  couldn't make tough decisions, but i loved him.  we can do better.   but, again, props marty.  you improved.
