Would you re-sign the Panther LEGEND Thomas Davis.......

He is clearly the second best linebacker on the team and leads the defense in toughness and fire. He continues to play at a high level. We should sign him for what the going rate is for a linebacker with his ability. Until we have someone better he is the best option at Sam right now.

id pay TD $4m...I would pay shaq less that that

issue is...who plays at these positions if we bail on them?

You will have to draft some and jag it up a year as well. Nothing really matters though until we fix both lines.

The way a lot of folks are framing this says a lot.

Yes, he is a Panthers legend. Yes, he's been one of the team's best players in the past. Yes, he's one of the good guys.

None of that actually matters.

You sign and pay a guy based on one single factor alone:

Can he help us win games in the future?

The reality is that Davis will be 36 years old before next season starts and yes, he's lost a step (or two). Given that he plays a position where speed and range are extremely important, if you're throwing a 36 year old guy out there you have to believe he's not going to decline even further to the point where he's a liability.

The problem even with that? Davis already looked like a liability several times this season. So how are you expecting him to look after yet another year?

In all likelihood, the team is bracing to leave the "family" approach of the past in the past. Under David Tepper, they're expected to be more like the Steelers. That means parting ways with guys before they hit the wall rather than after.

It might suck to see favorite players like Davis leave without happy endings, but that's football.
