Would you re-sign the Panther LEGEND Thomas Davis.......

This would be the type of move everyone crucified Hurney for in the past.  We need to get younger and stop neglecting our defense in round one.

No it isn't. Hurney handed out long-term deals with huge chunks of guaranteed money. Then in a year or two, he'd "restructure" them converting salary to bonus which meant freeing up money in the short-term but putting the team on the hook for more guaranteed money against the cap. That created aging over the hill vets with declining performance with inflated cap hits who couldn't be cut due to the guaranteed money on their contracts.

Some of you have been throwing dirt on TD for the last couple of years now, and I believe it's time for you to zip it.

Sure, he has lost a step, but he's still better than probably 80-90 percent of the linebackers out there, and certainly better than anyone not named Luke on this team.

TD said that he'll know when to gradually step back and cede his position to his heir apparent, and I believe him. Until that guy comes, he is more than a placeholder as is evident by his play.

If he wants to come back on a team friendly deal? With so many holes to fill, would he be good enough for one more year? He has been playing great as of late.

Honestly I would encourage him to retire.  Enjoy your family, get out of this business.  Don't risk any major injury.  Yet if he wanted to come back, I'd do it.

Signing a guy to new money based on how good he used to be is absolutely a Hurney move.

You let a guy go a year too early, the worst that can happen is he has a decent final year with some other team. That's no big deal.

You keep a guy a year longer than you should, he brings down your team's performance and you risk losing games.

We need to start thinking more like the Steelers and less like the old Panthers.

Just how little would Davis be willing to take?  Itd have to be very team freindly and his role would need to be scaled back (which wont happen if Rivera is still here).  If the deal was good enough and he wasnt being asked to start full time, sure, but honestly its time to move on.  He will be missed though.

I don't see that situation this way. I would much rather have TD for one more year at $4M than Shaq for another year at $10M. TD has lost a step, but he's still the better LB. It just hasn't clicked for Shaq and at this point it's fair to question whether or not if ever will. He's not bad, but he's not a $10M LB either.

    • We can't afford to reach for one of the first round QBs this year. I would love for nothing more than Bryce to be the reason we don't even scout the bastards
