Why was it not an issue the first 8 games of the year?

thats why I dont buy the scar tissue argument.

I know nothing about his shoulder or scar tissue ,,   but he has not thrown a long pass all season..  Even in the Ravens game they brought in T Heinieki to throw the hail mary at the end of the half..   Heinieki didn't and threw to Olsen setting up a FG .. but Cam hasn't been Cam all year,,  it's been short passes all year,  and the weeks have gone by , they've been shorter passes..

Because he didn't take a helmet directly to the shoulder? But even in the first 8 games, we never threw it down field

A helmet to the shoulder didn’t suddenly create scar tissue supposedly, (according to the OP) originating from the surgery.

Points taken about no long throws even early this year. But I seem to recall friggin everyone talking about how fantastic Newton was playing to start the year...maybe I’m wrong.

My experience (shoulder surgery twice and I watched HOUSE for several seasons) is that the surgery to repair the scar tissue does not usually create more scar tissue--but I am not sure (obviously).  It can usually be scoped (again, speculating based on my experience)  I can't imagine, however, a $20m QB not knowing the source of the problem, if that is accurate. If all it was is scar tissue, would Cam and RR not say so?

Like most things it depends. He could have the surgery and be 98% better. Or 88% where he is about right now. Really it's up to Newton what he does.

Its been a issue all year. Its why he has been on a pitch count.

How on earth is it hard to understand that that hit from TJ Watt in that Steelers game made it a lot worse? You know when you’re rehabbing something and someone hits it with a sledgehammer it tends to have a setback. It’s not a coincidence that after that is when they started have cam take more days off throwing in practice, subbing out for Hail Marys ,etc...if it was a smokescreen why the hell would the staff have made those decisions? Dude has tried to play through an injury. Anyone with eyes can tell his arm has gotten progressively worse since that... he should’ve been sat down to rest it if not full on IR’d weeks ago. Andrew Luck didn’t see the field for what 2 years after his surgery cause reports were it took that long for his arm to get back right. People are taking shots at Cam for being a team guy and playing hurt and it’s bullshit

So normally I share my insider information in preseason and try to shed light on a few things that are about to come to pass like last year and Newton and his progression and Samuel and his time table. Sometimes it's not 100% thing because players respond differently and heal differently. Well here's my not so prophetic information on Newton to date.

1) Is his Sholder in need of surgery or is he done. Well that's a tricky question and my friend had this to say. Medically Newton is dealing with scar tissue and there are two choices. Go in and clean it out or try to loosen it by time and training. From my friends point of view it's a hard decision because surgery could lead to more tissue build up or more range depending on how his body responds. While therapy could permanently solve the problem but take more time. Either way Newton isn't Hurt per say it's just he hasn't fully healed.

2) The second problem comes from his inability to step up and drive through on his throws. It's well known in the locker room that Van Roten isn't great and Kalil one and two are both done. Ones probably retiring and the other has it on his mind. Williams on the other hand is expected to recover well but is willing to sign in Carolina because his recovery will push past training camp. Word was originally he was ready to become big money somewhere else.

Well that's all I have for now. Hope it helps shed some light.

Sounds to me like if they'd shut him down early in 2016 and he'd had the surgery then, he would be much further along in rehabilitating his shoulder.

If you are really a Saints fan that explains a great deal

in the game against Pittsburgh, he took a direct, full speed helmet hit on that shoulder from TJ Watt.  It should habe been flagged for leading with the helmet, of course it wasn’t

Then again, God forbid with that porous OL, Turner can’t keep someone in the backfield to block Watt. The rush was used several more times in games before our brilliant coaches adjusted to it

i think he is not saying anything we didnt already kinda know but it still goes back to the point that Ron needs to protect Cam from himself. Non of these issues are going to fix themselves this season. I think other than his loyally issue i think Rons biggest flaw is that he doesn't protect Cam from himself, this is the second time he has been clearly hurt and the team didnt shut him down.

that's because all those people did was  look at surface stats like completion percentage and not the game itself with the obvious absence of deep passing.

Bruh if we can have BOTH Kalils retire AND resign Williams I will ***** all over the place. Van Roten and Larsen aren't great, but I feel much better being able to upgrade at least one of them and go into the evaluation process with Moton/Van Roten/Larsen/Turner/Williams than Kalil/Moton/Larsen/Turner/Williams. If there is another team that is desperate for an offensive tackle, we could definitely dangle Kalil as trade for a late round pick since the team would be able to cut him after 2019 and only have 9.8M in dead cap space. To me, that would be the most ideal (but also least likely to happen) scenario.

I really am.

And I don’t deny that dude has taken a beating. And you’re right, and haven’t watched a ton of Panthers game this season, so no I didn’t pay attention or notice Newton’s throwing. I was just remembering how all the talking heads were praising him to start the season.

Good points about the regression as the season has progressed.
