REPORT: Tampa would be interested in Ron Rivera if we fire his ass

Signed through 2020, Rivera will have financial security, if Tepper decides to make a change. Rivera also could end up with a new job; already, speculation has emerged in some circles that Rivera could move to the top of the list in Tampa, if/when (when) the Buccaneers fire Dirk Koetter.

That would suck because I'd have to root against him. But would be great because they'll continue to be terrible for years! I hope they just keep Koetter around, but would be fine with them hiring him when we fire him. As long as he doesn't join any division teams as a DC I'm happy. Would be a nightmare to see him coordinating Aints or Falcons defense.

I've never understood why all these rich owners do not take advantage of the fact there is no salary cap for coaches.  Go out and hire the best ones and get them on the same page.  They already do that with players and little or no thought is given to "which player works well with others".  They just go get the best player talent and expect the coaches to get them all on the same page.

Why can't an owner, especially the wealthiest owner, not do the same thing?  Hire the best coaching talent on the street, pay assistants top $$$ and demand they get the players on the same page?  Obviously there is more than a little apples to oranges in my analogy but it still frustrates me that we went into the season with raw position coaches (and DC) in charge of a season we expected to compete for it all.  Those do not come around often so why waste it trying to "develop" some guy?  Or hiring the son of the ageing offensive guru hoping something has worn off on him or that he too will "develop".  Hire one Head Coach and pay the 3 other guys HC$ to lead the 3 squads.

Why settle on in house promotions when pro teams change rosters so quickly anyway?  Why hire the comfortable friend of the family when you can hire the designated asshole to fire up the millionaire players?

If Tepper is the Go Big or Go Home guy we think he is, I expect Tampa to get their man.

Lets be clear, if and when Carolina parts ways with Rivera he will be a head coach somewhere. He has enough experience as a player and coach to a successful head coach. I mean look at Bowles, Joseph, Gase for example—Rivera is by far and large better coaches than they are.
