You're the GM.  What do you do.

Here's some guys who can be cut this offseason without a hit to our Cap.

So who would you cut?

If cut how do you plan filling that hole?

Shaq Thompson (cutting him saves 9mil, he is on the 5th year option)

Matt Kalil (saves money post June 1)

Poe (save roughly 3 or 6 post June)

Captain Munnerlyn (saves 2.5 or 4.5 post June 1)

Torrey Smith (saves 5)

Danoris Searcy (saves 3)

Cant cut anyone with a plan to replace

Go

okay, sit down folks.  take a deep breath.

anyone who is 33 years of age or older that is playing in 2018.  Wouldn't be playing in 2019.  I'd start there.

and that doesn't follow your rules but it is what it is.   I would literally rip the entire emotional band-aid with the fanbase all in one offseason.

Yes, it will be sad.  Yes, you could argue some could still play, locker room, etc.  But I think big picture we would be better moving on now from all of them now all at once.

The Baby Jesus Rule. If you've outlived the baby Jesus then you can no longer participate. I like it. And a rule for the holidays no less.

Thompson - Keep

Kalil - Cut. Replace by resigning Darryl Williams. Replace depth through draft/FA.

Poe - Keep.

Captain - Flip a coin. I don't consider him as bad as some. Not terribly difficult to replace either.

Torrey Smith - Cut. Never saw anything worth $5 mil. Replace through draft/FA.

Searcy - Cut. No reason to retain older players at this position. Replace through draft/FA.

I like, but cut Munny although he played real good last night.

I’d send Cam to I.R today.

Fire Rivera after season ( he’s only one capable of calling Defensive plays so have to keep him until seasons end)

I’d Cut Matt Kalil, Munnerlyn, Smith and Searcy.

Move Moton to LT, resign Williams to play RT

I’d offer TD a 1 year deal for 2.5 Million to return for one last year if he wants to return with the understanding he may not start.

Id offer Eric Reid and Chris Clark deals similar to what they have now but up to 2 years in length or even 3 as long as we have easy out in third year.

Let Ryan Kalil, Peppers and Adams walk or retire

Use free cap space to target biggest positions of need. For me that’s DE, interior O-line, Safety, Nickel corner(can compete with Cockrell) and DT tackle depth behind Short and Poe.

Id offer Butler up for a 4th round pick or trade bait to move up in the draft.

Go BPA in draft every round outside of MLB and RB

CUT--he is not worth $3m.  Has been disappointing.

Matt Kalil (saves money post June 1) Cut him, keep his wife.

Poe (save roughly 3 or 6 post June)  Hard to say--could we find better for $3m?  I say keep him, find better depth.

Captain Munnerlyn (saves 2.5 or 4.5 post June 1) Cut him twice post June 1

Torrey Smith (saves 5)  Cut

Danoris Searcy (saves 3)  Keep.  He is good depth at best, may have to start.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
