Ok, I'll Ask It; Does Cam Start Sunday?

Anyone who watched Cam’s presser last night knows the answer is we absolutely should sit him and let him get a jump on the offseason rehab (even if that’s just resting it).

From Rivera’s standpoint, as long as we aren’t mathematically eliminated he thinks we should still start him and hope for the best.

I don’t think the decision will be made until closer to game day and they will likely ask Cam if he thinks he can go and as long as his answer is yes or even “I’ll give it try”, Ron will probably start him.

My opinion is it’s best for his long term health to go ahead and sit him, but then again they guy in charge of that decision is fighting for his job and he’s made it clear Cam in his current state gives him a better shot than a healthy Heinicke does at saving his job

I've got to believe Rivera's fate has already been determined, one way or another.

If saving his job is the major driving force in his decision, a sit down with Tepper and Hurney laying out the (obvious) situation should alleviate it.  It may not change his fate at all, but at least it will take the edge off this decision and might even prove to the boss "hey, he's not as dumb as he looks."

If he plays another snap this year, I blame it squarely on Tepper. You have a lame duck head coach desperately trying to save his job and probably the same situation at GM. They have no interest in protecting the future of any players or the team. Rivera in particular has already shown a willingness to play Cam through known significant injuries even when there's nothing to play for (remember 2016?)

It's up to Tepper to step in and put a stop to the madness. If that means firing Rivera before the end of the season then so be it.

Ron doesn't want to bench Cam and Cam does not want to bench himself.  I doubt the reason Ron does not wish to bench Cam is less about "saving his job" and more about being a competitor and wanting to win every game he can.  Anyone with half a brain knows the results of these last 2 games will not play in to whether he comes back next year.

He just wants to win, baby.  That's his job.

a lot of question marks on offense the second half of this season, I mean did Matt kalil just vanish ? I know he’s not much of and upgrade but he’s gotta be better than Newhouse? Wtf happen to Torrey Smith ? Did we bring anyone back from ir besides Olsen ?

These questions are why Rivera should be fired, he’s in practice everyday and can see whether cam can throw the ball downfield etc, norv too, someone has gotta know whether cam’s shoulder is healthy enough to give us a chance to win or not

I agree with this except the gm being a lame duck also, I can’t imagine hurney stepping in and telling Rivera to sit cam, that’s all on the coaching staff

The GM controls the roster he doesn't have to tell Rivera to sit Cam. He can make it impossible to play him by putting him on IR.

That’s absolving Rivera Of complete blame, this is all on him he pulled this same stunt when dg was the gm in the 2016 season when he knew cam was injured

I don't care about blame. I just want to see us do the right thing for the future of our QB and our team. Ron's already said he's playing him so you have to take the decision out of his hands. IR is the best route to doing that. Plus, it preemptively thwarts any media clickbait talk about how Cam is soft not playing while not being on IR, not to mention freeing up the roster spot.

I agree but this is on Rivera, point blank, when has a gm undermined the hc and ir a player that coach wasn’t willing to ir? Reason number 323 to fired Rivera this offseason
