The 2 most concerning things I've seen Cam do during this losing streak have nothing to do with his shoulder or mechanics or accuracy

Cam's shoulder obviously isn't right. You don't go from playing like an MVP to Jimmy Clausen in the span of 6 weeks for no reason. But something that's really compounded that has been Cam's lack of focus. 2 things jump out at me immediately:

- Cam had a false start called on HIM against Tampa Bay. He started running on a QB keeper before the ball was in his hands and even before he had called for the snap. I can't recall another instance of an NFL quarterback ever being flagged for a false start.

- Cam taking the time to slowly get up after a first down run and celebrate......................................with the clock running while driving in New Orleans territory in the first half with 23 seconds left. I mean, what in the hell was that? 2 plays later, he threw one of his worst 10 passes of his career to Funchess in the end zone which, combined with Funchess getting bodied the second the play started, led to an easy back-breaking pick.

These are just two examples off the top of my head. These are mental things, not physical things. You could make the case that he's so frustrated with the shoulder that it's led to a lack of focus, but he just mentally isn't right out there either.

I’m not excusing any clocks mismanagement gaffes. But the level of pain he’s dealing with can screw with your mind. It undoubtedly plays a factor in the freefall of confidence. Anyone who thinks a major throwing arm injury doesn’t have a huge psychological impact a quarterback is wrong.

Plus, Cam’s always been a bit of an anti-social grump in lean times.

As for getting up and doing a celebration as the 1st half clock bleeds out: He clearly wasn’t fully focused on the situation. And he has no one to blame for that but himself. Completely unprofessional as the leader of the offense. We blame Ron for everything around here. Feel free to blame your franchise QB on that front. It was infuriating. So was Ron’s reaction to it. Yeah, we’re in the midst of a historical collapse, so let’s laugh it up.

Even though we were in the game all night, he seemed distant.

It’s not the first time, more like 50th.  No idea what people can’t see that Cam is and never was going to be elite.  Some games he is mentally sharp, but there are too many where he seems off in another land.

I'm sure the pain is excruciating, and that in turn affects his mental focus.  When I had a shoulder injury, i was constantly thinking ahead to the next play or the next lift to try to mitigate the pain...  then once it flared up again, I was trying to minimize usage so I could alleviate it.  So, I'm sure, at least subconsciously it affects decisions and focus, it's only natural...

He also just had a child, and that could definitely affect his focus as well for the first few weeks with a newborn.

I also wanted to say, there was something weird last night I noticed with his feet and dropping back...  and i'm not referring to passing footwork, but when he was actually receiving the snap and dropping back before he ever threw.  I'll have to go back and watch the game again, but something just seemed off, like i hadn't seen before.  There was a hitch like he was favoring something, and then when it was a designed run as well.  It's like he was setting up slowly, and more gingerly each play, so as to not put his full weight on one foot at any point.  Hard to describe, but it just seemed weird.

And about getting up slowly out of the huddle...  i've been pointing that out all year.  You can tell how bad he's hurting, bc he did the same thing down the stretch in '16.
