2019 cap space what would you do?

With the cap going up yet again next year I was curious what you would do if you were gm this offseason. We all know that we have many holes to fill especially on defense, but how would you go about filling the roster? Do you take a chance and sign a vet like Thomas Davis for one more year so you can push off drafting a linebacker for one more year? Do you stick with Larsen at center and Roton at guard? Do you re sign Williams? Anyone getting cut/restructured? What would you realistically do with Matt Kalil? Do you resign Reid for a reasonable rate and go with Our rookie in the other spot to take Adams spot or go fa or draft?  What if Peppers decides he wants to go for one more year? Do you let him walk or try to replace 3 DE spots?

Huddle GMs bring out your inner Hurndog and let me know what you would do this offseason as gm.

I think we try out best to keep TD and Peppers. Let Funchess walk if he wants a 4 year Number 1 more deal. Let Williams walk if he wants mega money. Hopefully you can give him a 2 year deal coming off injury. Think the biggest signing other than that is keep Eric Reid. Our defense is much better and physical with a solid safety behind them. Especially with how Short and Poe let runners go straight past their levels into the secondary. What safety is tackling Josh Adams, Mark Ingram, Todd Gurley, Levon Bell? Gaulden sure aint. Colin Jones sure aint. Adams gonna fake punch the ball and ride them for a good 10 yards first.

We keep Larsen.. I think Kalil is hanging up the cleats.

Best case scenario is sign Clowney which revamps the defense into a full cup of mother fuging hitters.

Other than that we will stay at base level and not get better. If Ron has any say it in it this team will be about the same it has been.

Unfortunately dt is another need after looking at this season. Poe and kk have under perform badly this season, realistically we could cut both and sign some run stuffing dt aling with drafting one. Funchess needs to go regardless, don’t care if he accepts vet min, we can do better and should. I welcome any of our vets back if they want to go at it one more year. Williams needs to be resigned, the possibility of him and moton locking down the OT situation is to good to pass up. We’re going to have to make some high risk moves if we plan on getting this team back into Super Bowl contention imo, that means slightly over paying for a top de fa, and possibly trading up for one in the draft. Bring Reid back and pair him with a true fs, idk if the possibility of Norman coming back is still there but that would also be a great move, if not we still need to add two cbs, a nickel and another outside guy.

Offense is set, if the moves about are made in fa, the vaule of adding another top o lineman or WR may be there and we won’t have to reach in the draft. If Olsen is able to get healthy, of course that helps but Thomas is looking good as if late. Really just have to make some aggressive moves and not get complacent.

Lb is another position I’d consider drafting a guy in the first 3 rds. Shaq ain’t it, lb version of Funchess.

Try like hell to sign Clowney, we about to build a practice facility in his home state sell him on playing in the Carolina's. Resign Reid on a friendly deal, we need youth he is the best we can hope for. Cut Shaq and save 9 mil.

Let Peppers/TD/Olsen/Kalil all retire, it's time to get younger.

Draft the best available DE in round 1, draft best available DT in round 2, draft a outside LB in round 3.

On par with everything here but cutting Shaq. We're not going to replace his production with a 3rd round rookie on top of already losing an OLB with TD. Shaq stays. However, I think Clowney is as prone to taking plays off as Peppers was. We still have Addison. but #1 pick, unless it's a franchise QB for the future, should absolutely be on the next miles garrett or kalil mack.

    • Agreed on the last part. They can’t afford to lose all these games with Martin and Perets.
    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
