I wont dog a guy who gets cut from the Raiders when they already cut Kalil Mack and Amari Cooper. Practically no one is safe in whatever regime that Gruden is building there.

No, the Raiders traded Mack and Cooper. For three 1st round picks, at that. They cut Anderson for free.

So does this mean that all of the people who were saying how stupid the Panthers were for not playing him and then releasing him dont know quite as much as they think they do?

Not when you look at who's coaching the Raiders.

Anderson is legitimately good. He showed it with the Broncos and even when he was with us. He was always considered one of the hardest working guys on the Broncos roster as well.

Only thing I can figure is maybe his attitude did go south here. That's still kind of hard for me to buy though.

More and more there are folks around here making statements about what goes on in the meeting rooms and locker rooms like they have inside knowledge.  Since the season started folks have been excoriating the coaching staff for not using CJ when they have no real knowledge of CJ's habits or attitude.

I dont know whether or not Anderson got a fair shake here but Im disinclined to jump to the conclusion that CJ was a victim in all of this and didnt contribute to his fate.  His release from a second team would suggest that he has some ownership in his lack of success here.

Brincos release was a cap/youth move from what I was able to dig up..

Anderson was the guy who was wearing sweatpants under his uniform just for additional conditioning back in training camp. That's the kind of guy he'd been since he came into the league.

I have a tougher time buying that a guy who's been high character since he was a rookie suddenly became an attitude problem.

Maybe we cut him because what we said was true...that CMC was so much a part of our offense that we need him on the field every play.

And maybe CJ just happened to be caught in a transition in our offense from the old "pound it" and the new Norv "move it".

But I don't get this...surely his attitude couldn't have got him cut so fast  in his second chance this year...could it?  If not, why did they sign him?

maybe he's just not as good as so many in here thought he was?

maybe he's just too odd of a cookie.

maybe both.

From what I've seen of him, he's a good guy. I've never heard anything bad about him. He may not be great, but he's certainly good enough to be on a squad right now. I really don't think that that can be genuinely questioned considering who else is rostered at the moment (e.g., Zach Zenner, Ronald Jones, etc.)

Followed CJ on twitter when he came to play with us and he never seemed that into it. Most guys when they come to the Panthers will get on Twitter and talk about how they were so happy to be here and/or throw in a #KeepPounding. Never did see CJ do that, he was always just on about his twitch stream, businesses, or getting real real salty with fans.

Maybe he was just the perfect player at the perfect time and system in Denver, and that lightning in a bottle is gone. Who knows?

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
