If we head into a uncapped year, would we Franchise Peppers again?

A lot of it depends on what he does this year. With the way he is playing right now he is earning himself his last BIG payday. There is a good chance that they will Franchise him just for trade value, if he keeps playing at this level someone is going to jump at the chance to get him.

He is getting a little age on him but he is in great shape and there is no reason he could not play another 5 years, easy. I wouldn't be suprised to see them tag him again regardless of the cap situation. With another 14-15 sack season someone would be willing to give up a first + for him. The only thing that kept him around this year was his 2.5 sack '07 and the way he went about trying to get out of here.

If there is no cap, would the big cat give Hurney the go ahead to franchise Julius again?

2010 - little doubt

2011 - IF we get a new CBA that includes the same rules as the current one in regards to tagging players, Peppers will cost 30 million. That would probably be well over the top.

This is not an easy decision to make. There are so many variables that play into this.

1) How does Peppers play this year?

2).Does he sign a new contract and make this question not relevant?

3) Knowing now that Pep apologized for his past play, this warrants a new perspective on Pep overall, this affects both points 1 and 2. If he steps his game up, you definitely want an all-pro player on your team. This also could dismiss the idea that Pep doesn't want to play in Carolina, and takes up a new contract.

Mostly, my point falls in with #3.

    • You realize the Commanders and Texans both had trash rosters. That's how they ended up with the #2 pick.   How all of sudden they go from bottom feeders to a playoff team the following season?   I think you don't realize the true impact of a franchise QB. It's crazy people still trying to debate the value of the QB position.   Y'all living in the 90's football isn't played that way anymore. The Baltimore Ravens dominate defense won in a different era. This is a QB era. You can't hit them like you could in the past. The rules have changed in favor of the QB.   Look at the elite teams in the league they all have elite QBs. Without the QB your franchise is going nowhere.   7 years under Tepper and fans still haven't realized this. Well keep ignoring the QB position and we will keep sucking. It's really that simple.
    • He needs to retire. His short stint returning to play for us showed Ho bad his shoulder had degraded.  No team is going to sign him. As soon as he retires the celebration of his career can begin.
    • The recipe over the last 5 years: 1. draft a guy with high athletic ability at a position of need.  2. play him out of his natural position because you have a big hole to fill. 3. watch him struggle.  4. let a young and promising talent grow depressed and apathetic because a God forsaken franchise is ruining what he has busted his ass his entire life to achieve.  The only reason Luke moved to the middle was because Beason got hurt. Think about that. It’s complete arrogance of the coaching staff to tell a player where he’s better suited… or the mark of a desperate team who drafts out of need.    This is what happens to teams that draft poorly and have no depth. Constantly working from behind and drafting for need.
