What backup will start now?

Ron Rivera mentioned post game yesterday that they go over the same thing every day in practice and that certain people still do not get it an execute. Who do you think gets benched this upcoming week and who gets more snaps going forward?

Quite from Ron: “I feel that we have some holes to fill on the football team, and we’ve got some positions that we need to look at and continue to get speed,” said Rivera after the game. “That, I think, is the biggest thing. We’re starting to see the importance of it, and the significance of it when we play fast. We need to give ourselves the opportunity to be successful.”

But Carolina’s ability to first play fast on defense, and then match that with consistent execution, has been placed on a milk carton — the contents of which went sour way back in Week 10, in a now-infamous drubbing by Pittsburgh.

What new faces will we see next week?

Think Ron will use Donte as a SCAPEGOAT. So watch for Elder or the next corner (I cant name) to start.

Ron might be dumb but he ain't that dumb.

Ron can pretty much scapegoat the entire DL and our S.   He has no reason to get that desperate to go after our most promising young defender in the secondary in over a decade.

At this point it's like rearranging chairs on a sinking ship.

We won't know what we actually have until we get a new staff with a new philosophy in here.

But man if we give Ron another year I'm done. Charlotte sports are too demoralizing.

We'll be picking No. 1 in 2020 if we keep Ron.

Donte Jackson sucks. Hate to break it to you and all of you on his nuts. He gets consistently burned and was picked on yesterday. He's 5'11 and not a starting outside corner. We need a veteran playmaker next year and to move him to nickel. He'd be perfect covering slot receivers.  He's basically a better captain munnerlyn.

We need to draft a whole secondary—

it did take a few seasons for Josh Norman,..

i hate losing too and I was on the get Akunamara-sp- and others we now see in Chicago etc but Jackson is a great talent— just needs development.

our whole defense has SUCKED this year— that doesn’t just happen to a top 15 defense the last few seasons—it’s Rivera and Washington—

rivera can be a DC, but not a DC and HC—notice our defense was top 10, then top 15 at least with wilkes and now pud with Rivera and Washington..

oh plus our team is losing key situational football,..

Cut Funchess, Poe, and Munnerlyn. Let Doss play, bring up Kendrick Norton, and then whoever to fill the 3rd spot. Don't think we need 6 WRs at this point anyway and cutting Funch will bring it to 5. Maybe bring up Vander Laan from the PS so that we'll have 3 TEs.

I'd also cut Ben Jacobs and bring up a LB from the PS, Brandon Chubb. He's supposed to be a special teams ace, but all he does is give us penalties every game.

At the very least, you see what we have in these young guys while at the same time trimming some of the fat.

    • some of my favorite mocks i do are trading back with Indy or Miami, but not Arizona, as that lets Hotlanta pick before us.
    • Carter, Graham, and Hunter for me. Other than that I'm listening to offers. Hell, I'm listening to offers anyway. I'm not doing the Gettleman thing of submitting the pick immediately. If the phones are ringing there's no cost to listening. Maybe someone has an offer so good that I can't refuse.
    • These numbers do not measure a player's prime. Do these numbers include OL pulled up from the practice squad for a game or two then cut?  Do they include players who might have been injured or cut for reasons other than they were past their primes?  The average career for an NFL lineman is 3.63 years, and that is because there is a lot of turnover--regardless of a player's prime. In fact, if only 55% of Offensive linemen drafted in the first round succeed, then the failure rates of most offensive linemen drafted and undrafted would be much lower, cause them to skew the average age of the OL.  This suggests that most players' retirement from the NFL is not based on their prime, but other factors.  They are cut, released, injured--and that is based on their level of play compared to others, not their levels of play within their personal skill range--something that peaks during your prime. In this case, I was talking about Moton, an elite offensive tackle, one that avoided the factors that shorten careers unrelated to their primes. I identify Moton as the team's best offensive lineman on an impressive OL--that distinguishes the type of player being referenced, so I did not provide a lot of qualifiers--as you didn't with your stats.   In this article below, one that evaluates established Offensive tackles, it states the following, which supports my comment:  "Most elite offensive tackles start to decline at roughly the age of 32 if they haven’t already."  So to say that Moton was at the end of his prime was not a reach or careless speculation.  If a player has the skill to be competitive and they can avoid injuries, their career expectancy is much higher than an average of all offensive lineman on a fluid roster. https://www.milehighreport.com/2017/2/27/14724674/age-wall-for-offensive-tackles-nfl
