Panthers Draft History

Porn Shop Clerk

Recommended Posts

Some of us here are aware of the horrible drafting done by the Panthers prior to 2001 in the first round.

Kerry Collins

Tshimanga Biakabutuka

Rae Carruth

Jason Peter

Rashard Anderson

And 1st traded away for Sean Gilbert.

Since 2001, our first picks have been:

Dan Morgan (Seifert pick)

Julius Peppers

Jordan Gross

Chris Gamble

Thomas Davis

Deangelo Williams

Jon Beason

Jonathan Stewart

Jeff Otah

Everette Brown(?)

The talent on this team didn't just magically appear, and while we've had some 2nd round busts, that's better than all the first round busts we accumulated in the first 6 drafts.

Just something that needs to be taken into consideration when calling for Fox's head.

I think people refer to rounds 2-7, when it comes to the Panthers drafting.

Steve Smith, Ryan Kalil, Travelle Wharton, Maake Kemoeatu...

You are an unrealistic fan if you expect a team to draft stars out of the later rounds.

We strike gold here and there in later rounds and that along with consistent first round picks builds great teams.

I have no problem with the drafting as a whole under the Fox and Hurney era. That being said -- and I know we've got to give it some time -- this last draft was very disappointing.

ALERT: FIZ BEING OPTIMISTIC

well, the last draft was pretty much seen as a depth draft, meaning there weren't a lot of players in the later rounds that were slated to start right away. the 2010 draft, for example, is probably going to be the best of all time, with all the players declaring to avoid the rookie cap. My real problem with that is the panthers trading away picks from it, but they're going to probably get two fourths/a 3rd and a 4th from hangartner and omiyale.

looking at the 2009 draft, i mean it's starting to not look terrible. Yeah, sharrod martin is a terrible bust and I hope he dies. But everette brown has been looking like he's getting better. Captain Munnerlyn is probably going to be a starter next year after Marshall leaves. Fiammetta is basically the best fullback prospect of all time, he just needs time to put on NFL weight. Corey Irvin is a project 3 technique, and like tony just needs time to get better. Duke Robinson is going to be starting at RG before the end of the year. Mike Goodson is obviously explosive, he just got knocked out...literally.

so yeah, the 2009 draft looks a lot worse because of the kind of draft it was and because the panthers needed starters, not depth. but the panthers did as well as they could with the cards they were dealt. if you look around the league, no one's draft class is tearing it up.

SS..was before Fox..and Maake was not drafted..but Fox and co will have to draft two postions that they either have no experience in or they suck at drafting..WR and QB

not necessarily. I've always believed our next qb is already in the nfl.

just two people that jump out for next year are Sage Rosenfels and Kyle Orton. I would LOVE to have orton on this team, but I suspect he's going to get resigned, since he's like the 3rd leading MVP candidate at this point behind Manning and Brees. We could also take a shot at reviving Jason Campbell's career.

same thing with wide receiver. I would love for the Panthers to make a big move for either vincent jackson, but more realistic would be something like a steve breaston.

Kyle Orton Is not a option. They are trying to extend him right now for around 80 million before his value gets higher the more he wins.

how many HC's succeed in this league w/o drafting a franchise QB? not many. one reason people criticize the Fox/hurney era. They don't believe in it, they'd rather grab one out of FA. which works sometimes, but look at the SB winners over time as a whole. most of them had a franchise QB that they drafted. along with a strong supporting cast (which we have, imo) surrounding them.

Maake Kemoeatu wasnt drafted and didnt start his career with the Panthers. And is incredibly overpaid for what little he actually brings to the team.

I will never understand why all these people think that we are a bad drafting team. We rock on draft day. Do you know how many franchises would love to have our record on draft day?

We NEVER miss on first rounders and always find good depth and possible starters in later rounds. Our history of first rounders is the most important because one bad first round draft pick can set you back years. Everything you get after the first is gravy.

Yeah, your second round guy should be somewhat productive but if you miss on him then its not the end of the world.

Everyone always likes to point out the Pats, but their last 3 drafts have not been at all impressive, if not complete dissapointments. There are a few other teams that get it right consistently but our FO is easily one of the best.
