Hurney brought the stars, Gettleman sealed the cracks.

Wish we could have both as GMs.

It's like building a house. Hurney would be the architect, while Gettleman does the housekeeping.

I'd rather have just one guy who can do both.

Maybe that's Omar Khan. Said it before, he's not my favorite choice because he lacks a strong scouting background, but he's been with an organization that has a strong player evaluation record and could conceivably bring along a player personnel guy who has the background he lacks.

Maybe Reggie McKenzie would work. He did a decent job in Oakland, given that he had to work for Mark Davis. People also forget the time he spent with the Packers. And he's pretty well-respected in the league.

Maybe even Lake Dawson. The Panthers organization took a big steaming dump on him in the Hurney fiasco, but a lot of the people responsible for that are gone. Maybe he'd be willing to give it another try.

All I know for sure is that we're set for a major retooling and we need competent people in charge of it. Hurney and Rivera are not those people.

I'm hoping Tepper finds the right ones for the job.

Meh, scouting backgrounds are overrated. I'd take Kahn if Hurney is fired.

Khan is considered one of the best cap specialists / salary negotiators in the league. That's his strength. He's been up for GM jobs a few times before (not with the Panthers) but hasn't been the choice.

He's also had the benefit of working under Kevin Colbert, considered by many to be one of the top GM's in the league. And you'd expect him to bring the Steeler way of doing things with him, along with maybe a few of their people.

If Khan can build a scouting department that's even halfway close to the operation that the Steelers have, I'll take him in a heartbeat too.

Wrong on nearly all counts.

I always love when people try to claim Gettleman succeeded because of Hurney's "pillars" yet they can never explain why Hurney didn't succeed with the same players.

I can.

"Pillars" don't mean jack sh-t if you can't build around them. It's a 53 man roster, not a 2 man one. If you don't build a complete team, you lose.

Hurney inherited McCaffrey, Samuel, Moton and more seasoned versions of both Newton and Kuechly than the ones he left. How's that working out?

And Clark isn't "outperforming" anybody. He's terrible. The only thing that's kept Cam out of the hospital this year is that he's getting the ball out faster.

After 2-14 we were on rebuild mode. Drafted cam then luke the next season. 3rd year was the turn around year in the Rivera era but hurney had already left.  So gettleman ends up getting the credit in 2013.

To Gettleman fans, this is simple: everything good is because of Gettleman, everything bad is because of Hurney and Rivera. It's impossible to reason with these people. They can't admit his garbage drafts were bad, they can't admit he screwed us over with his d*ck-wagging contest with Norman's agent, and they can't admit he wanted to re-sign Benjamin despite the fact he was very, very bad - all while letting Ted Ginn go over a small amount of money.

The guy had some skills. He was very good at not spending money, until he wasn't (see: Matt Kalil). He was good at getting UDFAs (but his drafts were bad). He was the right GM for a time and now he isn't.

Twice.

2nd time it was to the Saints of all teams.
