We say Triple Crown because he was a Panther but he wasn't the outright #1 all categories. He was #1 in yards. He finished tied with Fitz for receptions and tied with Harrison for the TD lead at 12. No other sport lays claim to triple crown winnings unless you are the outright #1 in all categories, ties aren't equal to wins. Posts like this make me sound like I hate Steve Smith and dude is one of my top 3 favorite players of all time. The truth is, take the homer glasses off and look around:

Shawn Alexander won the rushing triple crown the same year. He lead in attempts, rushing yards and in touchdowns. Not tied in a single category. 10 more rushing attempts than James at #2, 20 more rushing yards than Tiki, and HE SCORED 27 TOUCHDOWNS. 7 more than second place. The most dominant offensive force in the NFL in 2005 was clearly Alexander. This guy carried the rock 370 times and still averaged 5.1 yards per carry and even added a score catching the ball.

Dude everyone acknowledges the triple crown. http://www.nfl.com/news/author?id=0ap3000000916609

I get that. It's a watered down phrase in Football. You don't say Marvin Harrison leads the league in touchdown catches, right? You say he was tied with Steve Smith. Nobody says Larry Fitz lead the league in receptions in 05, they say he was tied with Smith. Which just puts even more oomph behind what Alexander did in 05 by actually leading in every category.
