CMC the best threat the Panthers have ever had?

Smith is by far the better weapon and there's no comparison. I mean CMC is amazing & one of the best RB's in the league already. But a lot of his stats are inflated. He's in on almost 98% of our snaps, there's no other RB taking his snaps, and he's used on almost every passing down as a underneath safety blanket. 

It felt like Smith had to work for all of his crazy stats. Inconsistent QBs, at times abysmal runnIng games due to injuries or O line play, rarely a solid # 2 reciever. And by 2005 Smith was ALWAYS being double or triple teamed. And when teams were ballsy enough to try and put their number 1 corner on Smith they were reminded real quick why Smith needed a whole defense to key on him.

 

With CMC it feels like defenses allow him to catch those safe routes, they are comfortable with letting CMC get his (CMC is so elite that he takes this advantage to the house) With Smith defenses knew that they had to get Smith off his game every snap, every catch, every reverse play, because if Smith got momentum early and often it was going to be a long painful day.

Smitty was the best receiver in the league under John Fox and Jake Delhomme as his QB, think about that for a moment.

Prime Steve Smith in this "new" NFL would be putting up fuging ridiculous numbers. I don't even see how there's a comparison. There are like 4 other running backs in the league right now doing similar things to McCaffrey.

Smith at one point was the best WR in the NFL. I don't think anyone will say McCaffrey is the best RB in the league. I would love for that to be the case though in a season or two.

I’m split on this because Christian has more opportunities to touch the ball as a RB did but Smith was unstoppable at times. He’d make double and triple coverage look stupid and had the break away speed not to get caught from behind. 

CMC will likely put up bigger career numbers but I’m not sure Steve with regards to that. For now I’d be happy if they wind up 2A and 2B.

With all that being said Cam is the ultimate weapon and is the best weapon we’ve ever had. CMC is a very good RB, Steve was a very good WR, but Cam is an enigma who can embarrass you with his arm or legs.

Give it just a little more time, CMC has the potential to create nightmares simply because he is a dually....gonna run or gonna catch and run?  I can't help but wonder how explosive the Patriots team would be having CMC and Brady dinking and dunking all day.

As good as CMC is, we forget just how good Smitty was in his prime.  For a few seasons there, he was practically uncoverable.  He lost nearly two years of his career to injury, and is still a likely HoF candidate.

CMC may one day be his equal, I hope he is, but right now Agent89 is the greatest weapon we've ever had on offense.

I am sure Steve would get 1000 yds rushing if he got the chance to play RB. Tough SofB.

Gurley is the only one much better and he has a better line as does Elliot Let’s just say cmc is the best All purpose back especially if gets close to 1000 receiving and rushing

I like CMC and he is a threat but CMC has great shift ability but not the greatest speed. CMC has got run down on some long plays this year. Smitty on the other hand was just aggressive and fast and when he turned on the boosters, it was a wrap. Granted they play different positions but Smitty also did it in the Punt return game as well. I think the jury is still out on CMC but definitely upside goes to Smitty. Cam is a threat too but for Cam to be the biggest threat he needs a oline.

Cam first, Steve Smith, Deangelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, Desean Foster before he got hurt against Chicago in the 2005 playoffs, Stephen Davis was a monster, 

CMac has a lot of respect from me, I root for him, but until he puts in a few more seasons, the players above and maybe a few more I haven’t thought of are better.

Deangelo Williams was a certified Monster when paired up with Stewart who was a bigger certified monster— both could smash, run around and catch. We never really took advantage of their pass catching talents.

remember 2011? The only year where we really had Chud and he had Stewart and Deangelo both run for 5.4 per carry and catch over 450 yards each? 

Now if we would have had a Norv or Chud back in 2008 when we drafted Stewart— anyone want it imagine what would have happened?

thats just those 2 backs—- thread is already too long but Steve Smith took over and won whole games for us when we had no one— Stephen Davis and Desean Foster were both incredible as well

I appreciate both Foster and Davis and some of my favorite memories as a fan had those two in them...

but no way in hell those were more explosive, productive, and caused teams to gameplan against them the way CMC does

Smitty never had an OC like Norv that would use him all over the field the way we have been CMC, DJ and Samuel.
