32nd in defense over the losing streak. It's on Rivera for getting figured out and not adapting besides taking over playcalling in the 2nd half against the lowly Bucs. Also, their stats show nobody watches film. Praising our defensive line during the 6-2 start when they haven't done poo outside of the Dallas game. Also, their CHANCE PERCENTAGE metric to make the playoffs or win a game is the most useless stat in the world. Nothing compares and this destroys that statistic. They should just rename it hype percentage. 101 passer rating without pressure even in the first nine games shows just how truly awful our secondary is.

I wrote a post back before the season started about how awful this franchise has done against the AFC North over the years. It's probably why we get a pass every other year b/c we play two divisions that are full of absolutely terrible franchises AFC East and South. The West is a wildcard but we can't hang with the teams and the elements in the AFC North, especially Shittsburgh. So as predictable as a presidential election is every four years, expect a losing season going forward the years we play this division.

We're going to go either 2-2 or 3-1 against our AFC North foes this season depending on the outcome of the Cleveland game.

Its becoming a trend that the defense starts to fade towards the end of the season. If I'm not mistaken, the defense was ranked dead last the second half of the season last year. Its these types of trends where you want your HC and GM to recognize that a certain unit is underperforming or getting old and it is time to replace them. That's been the biggest problem with Rivera, he doesnt do anything until it reaches stage IV. Now he is hoping that this aging defense will turn back the clock and salvage this season.

There's a worthwhile point to remember here: The next time you hear someone say that a team needs to learn how to win games or has finally learned that lesson, keep in mind that it's simply nonsense. The Panthers have alternately been great or horrific in close games during Rivera's reign, a roller-coaster ride that has continued into 2018. The Panthers were 7-1 in games decided by seven points or fewer last season, and now they are 2-5 in those same contests. Even-year woes seem to keep Carolina out of the postseason.

Seems easy to me:  We've been, at best, average at rushing the passer this year.  At worst, we've been, well, the worst.  Until we can pressure the QB, we'll be, at best, an average defense.  That's something the fanbase here has never had to deal with.  We've always been a pretty good defense.

JR preached a culture of mediocrity.
